Publisher's summary
A reluctant bride.
A trickster groom.
The lineage of a god comes to an end.
Long ago, Loki and Odin swore an oath of brotherhood. Since then, Loki believes that it is enough to love one soul, and wreak havoc on all else, until he learns that he is the one who will be responsible for bringing about the Twilight of the Gods. In a desperate attempt to forestall Ragnarök, Odin betrays his brother and forces him to take a bride. A Valkyrie, someone who will be loyal to Odin, and doubtless keep the god of lies in line. But if Odin believes that Loki will be controlled by the whims of one woman, then he is terribly mistaken.
Sigyn has never regretted the decision she made to leave behind her life as a mortal princess to serve Odin as one of his Valkyries, until now… When Odin orders her to marry Loki, Sigyn feels trapped by her duty and the oaths she swore. Even worse, to marry means that she will no longer be a Valkyrie, and she will lose all immortality that comes with it.
Tricked during his wedding vows, Loki finds himself exiled to Midgard and bound to a mortal. Now he must keep his new bride alive long enough to find her a new form of immortality or risk being dragged into death with her. Sigyn seeks to find a new purpose after everything that she once believed in betrayed her. Allying themselves to great mortal heroes, they set out to slay a dragon, claim a legendary treasure, and unite kingdoms. All the while, seeking to discover the truth to the question that could change their lives forever—what makes one worthy of becoming a god?
This standalone is perfect for romantic fantasy fans and readers of Emma Hamm and Sylvia Mercedes, who are looking for a new slow-burn, swoon-worthy story. It’s a sweeping tale of love, betrayal, and dragon fire set in a world of Vikings, witches, and gods.

Story
Mating is a matter of politics for Night, not the heart. To prevent a forced union that will plunge the Lunar Court into war, he must find and bond his true mate. When he lays eyes on Rain, he knows the shy forest witch is the bond mate he's been searching for. Unprepared for the intensity of his attraction, Night makes an offer that would keep his priorities straight and his court safe: a marriage of convenience. Any eligible woman—mortal and immortal alike—would leap at the chance to become the powerful duke's bride. But Rain isn't interested.

Story
No one told her the most important law of the court - the law of greeting. If they had, maybe she wouldn't have greeted Bluebeard when he arrived to claim a mortal wife. And if she hadn't greeted him, she wouldn't have become his 16th wife or been swept away to the lands of the Wittenhame. But if none of that had happened, then she wouldn't have been an integral part of the game that takes place every 200 years - a game that determines the fates of nations.

Fun rendition with a cool plot twist
This book is a lot of fun! The narrator did a great job at bringing the characters to life, particularly Loki. While I loved the idea of the story, I didn’t care for Sigyn’s character. For a Valkyrie, she was pretty meh. Honestly all the Valkyries were not as strong of character as I would expect a Valkyrie to be. They didn’t really even fight, or kick ass in any significant way, which was a bummer! Other than that, I loved Loki’s character and the talking head Mirmir. I wish he were more part of the story. Fun read!

Fun and endearing!
First off Daniel Schaal’s performance was perfect! He made Loki sound just like Tom Hiddleston, and I loved it! On top of that, this story was so fun but also sweet and I absolutely and Loki and Sigyn were just adorable. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys clean mythological retellings.

Fantastic Story
This story was great and the narrator was good as well, though it took some getting used to. I wasn't sure how I felt about the depiction of Sigyn at the beginning since the story took a lot of agency away from her character (that is more typically given in modern interpretations), but it was easy enough to get over since the story was so compelling. If you're looking for a strong and empowered Sigyn you'll be left waiting, but if you're looking for a Loki story with twists and turns you'll probably enjoy this one.

Captivating Narration!
I loved all of the different and unique characters the narrator portrays. The voice of Loki is so perfect! The story itself is intriguing and has some good humor, romance, and action through out. If you enjoy Norse Mythology, you're going to love this story and performance!

Outstanding
I had heard that Daniel Schaal was going to be handling the narration of this story and was pretty eagerly looking forward to it.
Not knowing Nicki Chapelway's material or style, I could not have been more pleasantly surprised after the first few chapters. The storytelling was fantastic, with a brief post-story synapsis of Nicki's strategy for synthesizing a few Norse Myths into a story that flowed and made sense. It really was a wonderful listen, and very well-crafted. The characters are all sculpted with small idiosyncrasies that give them additional juice and add to their identifications and personalities.
The voices brought the story to life in a way few audiobooks narration have for me in my (somewhat extensive) audiobook listening experience.
I could not possibly recommend this title with more enthusiasm. Get it, Download it. Listen to it immediately.
Looking forward to exploring more of Nicki Chapelway, and of course, always eager to see what Daniel Schaal has coming up next.
