As Mercy, Mark, and Tohru cope with the devastating aftermath of a drunken car crash, it becomes clearer and clearer that things can't continue as they are. Before they have a chance to set the world right again, however, women begin dropping dead around them in rapid succession, and the only connection between those women seems to be their involvement in Mercy's recent investigations.
Solving and stopping these killings needs to be top priority, but emotions are running high, and relationships are strained as Mark deals with his alcoholism, Tohru learns a new way of life, and Mercy realizes that love is a far more painful experience than she may be ready to accept.

Not only do we learn what happens after the "big bang" at the end of the last book in the series, but the team moves on in their lives and in podcast related murder investigations.
In this segment, the characters attend a murder fan convention, struggle with alcohol addiction, take relationships to new (or different) levels, maneuver through issues of gender misconduct, deal with health challenge or disabilites; and of course, investigate murder.
I love this series because: 1) a very modern contemporary media feel structured by a true crime podcast with mentions of how social media influencers operate; 2) very lovable characters, who are each imperfect in unique ways, making them very believable; 3) clearly written narrative from multiple character's perspectives; 4) characters from very diverse groups, presented in an "that is just the way the world is" style, not an "pity me because I am opressed" way.
Audiobook narration is excellent, as narrator Andrew Perrez switches voice characterizations of many characters of many ethnic and social strata groups.
Very touchingly, author Arielle Morisot, who has developed a close and caring relationship with her fans, dedicates the book to the spouse of one of her dedicated followers who died from complications covid in October 2022, with the request we all continue to be careful. Allow me to echo her request, "Take Care!"
I highly recommend this book and series!
