This book lives up to its title!

Becoming a new you by Friday really is possible. With his qwerky humour and unique story telling Kevin Leman guides you on the path to a new and better version of yourself! Definitely recommend this book.

Life changing!

This book has put A LOT into perspective for me. I was skeptical at first but now would recommend everyone reads this book! It has helped a lot in my mindset of who I am as a person, and why. Also has put some new perspective and understanding on who and why my husband, my own kids and other friends and family members are the way they are. I loved it!

Wrong title?

Some interesting points, no miracle cure, general, a bit too long.

I had expected more and better tools for “changing by Friday”. I was looking for some “quick fixing” and encouraging reading. The book is more like an ordinary book about the topic, self development / help. No miracles by Friday as the title promises.

Good parts:
The chapter about birth order was interesting indeed. Very interesting observations about what shapes us. The chapter was maybe a bit too long.

The authour's own story about the gain of self confidence in the academic field was also very interesting.

The part about early childhood memories was ground shaking to me! (Do the exercise). I got to see some of my “blind spots”. Or I got to see and feel where my personality was shaped. My first memories were also feelings which unconsciously have been with me ever since, without me knowing where the feeling of being “me” came from. These (until now hidden) feelings are both my personality and also my defense. I have not truly been able to understand why people have called me selfish and absentminded (or therefore I have not been able to or felt it necessary to change it, because this “feeling of me” felt so right). But seeing myself in my early childhood I saw a child getting her way but also “living in my own world” to protect he self from chaos and lack of contact. Now that I have literally seen my weakness and its root, I feel I have a choice to do otherwise.

How the personality of your parents has shaped us also turned to be true for me. Very interesting.

Otherwise tools to identifying your weakness’s and implementing the changes was rather trivial. (Im not sure the experience I have described above was meant to be so ground shaking as it turn out to be for me).

The author reveals weakness's which he has not be able to change, which makes the last part of the book more like chit-chat.

Some interesting points, no miracle cure, too general, a bit too long.

Okay, but Outdated

The principles are good, but the cultural references are outdated and I don't think the author has ever really been around Great Danes. He describes their temperament much differently than any I have ever been around. They are known as "gentle giants". They are extremely docile. Quite the opposite of what he describes.
The author lingers so long on birth order and giving examples of it, that I got quite bored. There is a lot of relationship advice, and being happily married for 32 years (to another firstborn no less), I just felt like it didn't apply. I'm sure that there are people who would really benefit from this book, I'm just not one of them.

Life changing information!

I just turned 67 but this book changed my life. Dr Leman has given me insight into my attitude and behavior that has puzzled me for years. I didn’t understand why I felt and acted like I do until I read Have a New You By Friday. This book gave me the tools to turn my life around and love myself and stop feeling like a loser. Thank you, Dr Leman, from the bottom of my heart!

exceptional!

loved it. this book really helped me to understand my birth order as well as some of my family members. This helps me understand them better in my dealings with them. It was very eye-opening for me regarding my children as well. I grew understand some of the reasons behind why they do things the way that they do and it makes more sense. I recommend this book for anyone to read who wants to understand themselves better and others.

Worth Reading to the End

This book is deceiving at first. I have read other reviews saying that it's "too much birth order" and not loyal to its title. However. those who read it to the end find that the birth order information is crucial to having success in the very helpful last chapters on actually making the changes.
Kevin Leman has hit another home run. Those of you who read just halfway through and got discouraged at the lack of helpful steps would benefit from reading the whole book.

You gotta know this! Cos you don't now.

Get clarity on who you are. Who others are. Why you behave the way you do. Why people behave the way they do...then you'll be skilled to fill the gaps that crash the happiness formula. Thanks Cubby!
