About this listen

It was supposed to be a medical marvel. Instead, it triggered the apocalypse.

Half of humanity mutated into mindless zombies. Half the survivors mutated into the inhumans: various new species of people with new appearances and abilities. Some grew scales, some grew fur, some could fly, some could survive only underwater.

Decades passed, and from the ashes of the old world, a new patchwork civilization rose. Humans and inhumans lived in tentative peace, and the zombies turned out to be not much of a threat once a few generations of survivors had come and gone.

All that changed last spring when the virus mutated again. Now, the inhumans are mutating into lethal horrors and running rampant, murdering thousands.

David is a survivor. Born decades after the collapse, his is a life of lonely wandering. As the first winter in this new world of dangerous monsters sets, he finds a place to bunk down for the season. But David has no idea that he is about to be forced to change the course of his entire life. When the settlement he intended to stay at is destroyed, he wanders the frozen countryside and begins encountering other survivors, many of them attractive, inhuman woman, looking for the same thing he is: comfort, companionship, and a place to call home...

This collection contains HAVEN 1-8 & HAVEN—EPILOGUE. It also contains three bonus short stories.

HAVEN features badass women, settlement building, and lots of monster fighting.

I have read this author before and loved their work. This one just seems different, the writing feels immature and inexperienced. It gets better as the series go on but not to the standard I was always expecting. The narrator at the beginning seems to be phoning in her performance. She honestly sounded like she was bored and just doing it for the paycheck. They got better by the last 3 books so I'm giving it a solid 3 stars. S good book to start the genre

Love the action and plots

I liked the whole of the story overall, the different types of enemies was awesome, (hunters was my favorite). Really the only issue I had was the voice actor doing male voices, it just didn't sound good and took me out of the world, I believe there would be more emersion with a male doing male voice and the female doing female voices.

Fun

better than expected. I wasn't really sure what to expect, but the actual story was well done, and the amount of sex was great.

Language

The story was great the characters were likable and it was easy to get invested in each characters growth through the story. The only thing that took me out of the story at times was the over use of the word murder. When a character would kill someone in self defense they would refer to it as murder. Outside of that the story was solid.

Editor(s)?

First, I feel that I have little right to critique anyone who has finished and published a manuscript. I have notebooks upon notebooks of stories and ideas that I have yet to finish. And for all of my training and wishing to voice copy of any type, I have but one, no two short stints in a booth that have been put out into the world. That said...
My thing is long books and stories. I won't have have much interest in any story less than 20 or 30 hours. 50-60 (or more) hours really gets my attention. So this collection was a 'must listen' for me. And, I'll be honest, I was rather looking forward to some graphic blue content. I wanted to have some good ol' sex & violence. I have found many, really any books at all with much heart pumping sexy stuff. Anyway, this collection had plenty of both. So much so that the writer seemed to have trouble keeping the sexual encounters fresh and distinct from one to another. There were several errors in the recording(s) that either the editor of the text let slip through or the director or editor of the recording didn't correct. Either way, it immediately pulls the listeners out of the story, forcing them to guess at a correction that makes sense. This is particularly disturbing when it happens in a long, long narrative because the reader/listener has had the time invested in creating a much more rich and detailed world in which the story takes place. Ultimately, it falls on the director or editor to catch discrepancies before the final product is released. An open and collaborative production environment gives the director/editor the assistance of the others involved in the production license to question errors, discrepancies or idiosyncras idiosyncrasies idiosyncrasies should they notice them.
If I was to have a suggestion regarding the adult scenes, I would suggest more description of what the characters were seeing, what does it look like, smell like. The feeling, the tactile experiences were well done, well expressed but with so many encounters they started to sound the same. And this main character was have sooo many encounters with sooo many women, and women of so many 'species'.
OK, I did take issue with so many contemporary colloquial isms in the dialog of the story. I just felt that they were used so often and by different species that some explanations of their use and understanding would have kept me from being pulled from the story at their use. The military jargon and practices in particular.
The reader: Again, I haven't done a book yet, so I feel a bit guilty about criticism. I cannot imagine how daunting it must have been to commit to a narrative this long. However, as a massively overt rained out of work performer, I will humbly tender my opinion(s). Firstly, wow.! I am thoroughly impressed by her ability to read very graphic content with great commitment and dedication. I don't know if I could have done that. Some of the adult language and intimately graphic description was impressive to hear her perform. Again... Wow.
I will tell you that from the beginning and through the first couple of books, our narrator had a habitual cadence and intonation that kept me out of the story. In fact, I almost called Audible to get my money back. Now, having made my way through the whole collection I feel like she was able to shed her bad habit and made the text much more natural sounding. I must offer that after the many day that I have spent with her, it is possible that my ear has grown to accept the speaking style to get to the narrative of the books. I'll let you judge. As she distinguished the many characters' voices she utilized several dialects. This story takes place in the bleek future somewhere in the (former) United States. Several of the dialects are regional US dialects, while others are UK, and other counties' dialects. And I am nit-picking here, however some of her pronunciations of words in the dialects that were used were inconsistent with the dialect(s) that she was using. This could easily be explained away by some part of a given character's background. But, it wasn't and I found it distracting. It's something that an editor or test listeners could have pointed out and could have been corrected.
I cannot imagine writing such a massive tome of work. Congratulations. And I wanted something adult, and this certainly was. I loved that the main character was such a mensch and was so, almost unrea

One of the best I've ever listened to.

I loved the entire series, from start to finish. I have rarely had a series that grabbed me at the start and kept my interest through it's entirety. It was a neverending thrill ride. I will highly recommend this series to others.

Not their best, but Definitely worth the read.

Great idea and story line. Narrator is good, but a little William Shatner ish, but much better than most in this genre.
PLEASE, Misty Vixen --- Take a day and talk with people that know about guns and combat! Not everyone knows everything. Let a combat vet or a redneck hunter critique your writings.
Overall WELL worth the read and the price

Over bearing fe.ales

The series has a lot, and I mean A LOT of sexual encounters. Sadly, it's as if a teenager wrote the scenes, and a guy teenager at that. The story is semi decent except for the horrible survivalist skills, I seriously doubt the author would survive even one day in the setting she's writing about. I bought the complete series and actually made it all the way to book 6 I think until stopping to write this and call it quits.
I get pushy females, it's the main characters fetish and it's post apocalyptic. People have it rough, fighting to survive, etc but when Val is introduced...ugg. Nty. Instant shut down of book. Most of your fan base are guys, not girls. Please don't shove female dominance down our throats. You already had a semi disrespectful survivor with Vanessa, we didn't need a full blown disrespectful female in Val. What makes it worse is how everyone just smiles as she's doing it. These are hardened survivers who all love the main character and allowing him to be used and brow beaten by some random female is just bad writing.
