Publisher's summary

You long to serve God with grace and strength, to reflect Christ in every word and action. Yet you find yourself continually struggling to bring that vision to life in your daily walk.

At our very core, every one of us is a "twisted sister" within whom the flesh and spirit battle constantly for control. We are afflicted with spiritual schizophrenia, the disconnect between our "good girl" desire to put Jesus first and our "bad girl" realities that crowd our thoughts and push him out of the way.

In this life-changing audiobook, Joanna Weaver, author of the perennial best-seller Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World, directs your gaze past your own shortcomings to the God who stands ready, willing, and able to make a new woman out of you. She equips you with biblical insights and practical tools to partner with Christ, inviting him into the hidden places of your soul and giving him full permission to redeem and renovate.

Drawing on the stories of biblical Marys and others whose experience with God transformed their lives, Joanna shows how you can find the hope, healing, wholeness, and joy your heart longs for. Having a Mary Spirit will launch you toward lasting personal transformation: soul-deep change that results in a complete makeover, from the inside out.

A Work of Heart

Joanna Weaver’s style of writing is so simplistic, and yet so profound! The Holy Spirit has used her to rub the healing balm of Gilead and to pour in the oil on places of my dry, cracked heart that really needed chains and wrecking balls so I could completely start over. Instead, having read through Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World and Having a Mary Spirit at least twice over the last year, my heart is not the same! I praise God for what He is doing in my life and for Joanna’s willingness and availability to be used to bless others!!

Like chicken soup for your soul

This book has helped me to grow deeper in the Lord. Checking my motivation, fear, and hesitations. Great spiritual reflections, scripture and prayer and studies will bring you closer to the Lord as you seek his face.

Good story.

The story is wonderful. The reading of the story is not. She skips as much as a whole page in reading. This is very disconcerting while you’re trying to follow the story line. It interrupts your train of thought. I’ll continue to read the book without the audible reading. 😒

a bit wordy, not original

This might be a good listen if you are new to books on spiritual life or want to hear an upbeat re-hash of traditional Pauline spirituality (lots on "flesh woman versus...."), but I found it "chatty." Great title, though, and clearly narrated from a pastor's wife's perspective, if you like bubbly narrators. Not original, but lots about "original sin." This is clealy a very good woman, but as for her writing, I found many of her metaphors too drawn out.

I think "Velver Elvis," for example, is a better, (And still bubbly if that's what you want)presentation.
