About this listen

A stand-alone adventure novel that is also part of the Shattering/Legions Saga!

The galactic agent known as Hawk has awakened too soon in a galaxy shattered by apocalyptic warfare. His master, the Machine, is possibly insane, and the great Adversary of Man has returned. Armed with futuristic weapons he doesn't fully understand and a sentient starship that he dares not trust, he must confront his former allies, turned renegades and pirates instead of soldiers. His new mission is simple, yet perhaps impossible: He must unite them - or all life in our galaxy will end!

Hawk: Hand of The Machine is vintage Van Allen Plexico - stripped-down, all-out Military SF/Space Opera action and adventure in the grand tradition, with bold heroes, deadly menaces, and the future of the very galaxy at stake!

Interesting story

The story was interesting, but the narration was rough.

The Machine - Hawk (a god?) - a galactic war

Interesting stuff.

Unfortunately for me, I did not enjoy the narration. Not that the narrator is terrible, but you can hear him inhale at the beginning of each line - This drove me crazy and took most of the enjoyment out of the story(for me anyway).

I recommend listening to the preview to determine if it will be an issue for you before you buy - if you can handle it, you may very well enjoy this series.

Loved it! Exciting, Excellent narrator too

I don't usually leave reviews, but I was getting tired of Sci fi genre and Hawk brought me back.

Better than I was expecting

I received this copy per my request, in exchange the least I could do is write an honest review.

This book was pretty good, I had my doubts at first but the story kept building leading me to want to know more about the main characters past and the outcome of the galaxy. The way it ended I could see there being a sequel I would be interested in finding out what happened to the characters but it ended on a note to where a sequel isn’t needed. I have been listening to all of Sean’s work and he is a damn good narrator he draws you in, not at all monotone. Each of his characters sound individual though so of his characters between books share a similar voice however I expect that as its hard to have a 1000 individual voices at your disposal that you can speak with ease and at your command. Looking forward to listening to more of Seans work it gets better each time (trying to listen to his work in order from his first to latest narration.) I think this is worth a listen and helped me get through a couple work days.

Hope there's more to come!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. So hope it's continued with several more releases.
The narrator did justice to all the characters. Bringing out their personalities to the point I want this series to continue.
Did I mention that I would like to see this continue? Just making sure.

Solid

I was extremely excited to get to this story. It caught my attention real quick, and it didn't disappoint.

While Hawk, the equivalent to a augmented Special Ops solider for a being called The Machine, is the main character, i found myself drawn to the demolitions expert Falcon more. But, the overall story is good, a little slow going in the beginning, when you hit the halfway point it really starts to pick up. I really applaud the author for creating such a thorugh universe, that makes me continue to want to learn more.

As for narration, it was solid enough, chracters were really well done, and kept me entertained throughout.

i received this as a free copy, but my opinions are my own.

Pretty great!

I liked this book quite a bit. The narration was excellent as well! The narrator paused mid sentence often, but it wasn’t too distracting.

I received a free copy of this book and am leaving an unbiased review of my own volition.

Thrilling Science Fiction Adventure

Van Allen Plexico has written a creative and exciting futuristic science fiction story. The plot, which had me guessing, moves along steadily. There is plenty of action. The characters are well developed and the would building is excellent. I had the pleasure of listening to the narrator, Sean Duregger, as he brought this story to life; his narration added to my enjoyment of this book. I was given a free review copy of this audio book and am voluntarily leaving this review.

Sci-fi or fantasy?

I liked it enough... but it feels more like classic sci-fi — more fantasy set in space, less sciency. Characters weren’t terribly deeply motivated, people return to life without explanation, portals appear between layers of reality that conveniently do whatever the plot requires. It is a fun romp with some plot twists and a happy ending. A nice light listen... you’ll just have to occasionally rewind to confirm who has returned from the dead and who is an imposter of someone who is dead. Eventually I quit caring which was which!
