Slow burn. Gets steamy

Easy to drop in. Narrator’s tone is warm, not overly invested, well paced. Lured into a since of security early on which paid off big when things heated up. Writer speaker combo good in that way. It all hits the fan by the end then leaves you hanging. Saw it coming. Wasn’t mad at it. Guy moaned a little too much for my taste though. I mean I get it. Stuff feels good. But dude…keep it together till at least book 5. Book 2 definitely worth a go.

Maybe just read the book…?

The story itself was good. It was a little slow in parts and sometimes hard to stick with it but mostly that was due to the narrator.

I really hate to speak poorly of narrators because I know they put time and effort into their performance but this one was just bad. It kind of sounded like Siri was narrating the book because of how robotic it was. Accents were sometimes attempted but then other times not, and there was very little difference in each characters voice so it was hard to figure out who was speaking when there were conversations. I almost just returned it but I was already invested and wanted to know what happened with the little girl so I stuck with it.

I listen to numerous audiobooks weekly so I’ve heard a lot of performances. This one wasn’t the worst but it was pretty close.

A Great Book!

I really enjoyed this book! I am new to the author and loved this story. Such wonderful characters that the narrator did a fantastic job with!I am a huge fan of this genre and have read/listened to a LOT but this was one of my favorites. It had a very unique take on the paranormal which I appreciated. I am excited to read more by this author and listen to more by this narrator.

paranormal, psychological thriller, romance

This story blew me away in the first chapter. The Narrator was perfect for the voice, and she sucked me into the story so much that I listened every free moment, and finished it in 2 days. (At 1.0 time.)
There was NO point at which I wished the story moved along faster, or skimmed details. Every minute of detailed description added to the characters, setting, and mood. The romance was immediately apparent, but set on low, which fit perfectly with the overall paranormal/thriller aspect of the book, and when it finally happened, it was very satisfying, and not at all gratuitous.
I bought this book because I met the author and liked her. I prefer fantasy romances with a little more sex, but I have to admit that this story had just the right amount of everything: a long slow and inevitable build-up, and an HEA. Furthermore, the character development was so good, I can't wait to read/hear more. I think I'm hooked on Merrill's work, even if I have to read it.

The subject of this book is believable

I liked there is a possibility that there maybe people that possess these abilities that are referred to in this book and a place for them to be educated and taught how to use their gift in a useful and safe manner.
