Kept me guessing

Another great book from Greg Olsen! I am now a big fan and I am so happy he has so many books to read.

This is my third one and second in this series. If you are a murder, mystery fan, you’ll love this series!

Story good animal abuse description horrific

The storyline was good. I enjoy the main character’s boyfriend Chris how supportive he is to Emily. Emily I started out liking as the main character but as the story progressed I found myself thinking she’s not a very proactive detective. Her work mate Jason is picking up on more clues and so is her boyfriend while she’s waiting for things to fall into place. I feel like the main villain’s wife did more detective work. Overall the story was enjoyable but I had to skip through some of the overly descriptive scenes of animal torture. I look forward to reading another book with Emily in Cherry Stone and see how her character develops.

Trigger warning

I love Greg Olsen’s books and have read several. This was a good story with some twists and turns. I feel that I should issue a trigger warning, though. Some of the parts about a young boy being sexually abused and animals being hurt were too graphic for me. Even as a children’s therapist who has heard it all, this was a bit too much for me. Or perhaps that’s why it was too much, because I need an escape from the horrible things that are done to children, which I am later expected to help heal. If you are a victim of childhood sexual abuse or SA in general, I would recommend skipping this story. Good book overall, though.

Like the story… but this detective drives me nuts

I tend to listen to mostly thriller/detective novels. Maybe I’m spoiled by Karin Slaughter or others, but this detective is awful. She waits for things to happen, doesn’t follow the clues or her gut… but otherwise. Other than those details, I like these characters. I like the stories. This is the second I’ve read that follow this group of people.
I’ve listened to true stories by Gregg Olsen and I have enjoyed them. So my only hang up is the one thing about how this detective investigates or her lack of investigation is with the cases.
Otherwise I like the story. Narrator is good. All else is good.

I had to stop after chapter 38

despite the book jumping around quite a bit I was still interested enough to keep listening. at chapter 38 it started discussing how one of the main characters started killing animals. I still continue to listen and tell they began in my opinion overly detail the torture of the animals. also chapter 36 I had to skip because it was so detailed I about the sexual abuse of him as a child. I understand why authors would include some of these details in their books however, I feel they could of mentioned it rather than describing it the way this book did maybe it's just me

But what else could he do?

(As posted in Goodreads)
This is the second in the series, and its as thrilling and involving as the first. I still love the characters, and the suspense is tangible. The reader feels a little sorry for the villain, who didn't deserve the horrible hand he was dealt, but seeing the inventions and possibilities written by great writers like this one (Gregg Olsen) is very mind opening. One feels bad for the villain even though it's only a fiction story, but at the same time, one realizes that there really are real live people who were dealt equally bad hands, and society cannot deal with it.
Great book

LOVE THIS SERIES! HOPE IT CONTINUES!

This is a great although short series. Emily Kenyon is an interesting character and intriguing to follow. Karen Peakes is a good narrator. I've already listened to the so called "3rd Book" in the series and it doesn't belong here. Book 3 is a great stand alone story so don't miss it. I hope Gregg Olsen sees fit to continue with the Emily Kenyon Thriller Series. It's a good one. I like the length of the books for my credit.

Very graphic

I had to fast forward through the detailed description of animal abuse. It was too graphic for me. Other than that, it was a good book.
