About this listen

Firstlife, an Everlife Novel

One choice.

Two realms.

No second chance.

Tenley "Ten" Lockwood is an average 17-year-old girl...who has spent the past 13 months locked inside the Prynne Asylum. The reason? Not her obsession with numbers but her refusal to let her parents choose where she'll live - after she dies.

There is an eternal truth most of the world has come to accept: Firstlife is merely a dress rehearsal, and real life begins after death.

In the Everlife, two realms are in power: Troika and Myriad, longtime enemies and deadly rivals. Both will do anything to recruit Ten, including sending their top Laborers to lure her to their side. Soon Ten finds herself on the run, caught in a wild tug-of-war between the two realms who will do anything to win the right to her soul. Who can she trust? And what if the realm she's drawn to isn't where the boy she's falling for lives? She just has to stay alive long enough to make a decision.

Enjoyed it very much! it took some getting used to all the different perspectives being told but it made sense. I cannot wait to read on.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I really enjoyed Tenly. I think she is a strong, brave girl who knows (while not knowing) what she wants. She knows she has a choice to make between Troika and Myriad, but unlike most, she doesn't know which is the right choice for her! She isn't ready to choose Myriad because that is what her parents want from her. She knows there are valuable assets to both everlife realms and she wants to choose what is right for her.

What does Emma Galvin and Zachary Webber bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love these two from previous books I have bought on Audible. They bring life to the characters. They do a fabulous ob giving characters their own voices and accents when they are needed.

Fabulous, Unique, and Wanting More!

Great story, Great plot. Characters and world building are intriguing. This story was fast paced. The narrators were each given multiple accents to imitate. Without question, Zachary Webber far surpassed Emma Galvin in ability. The audiobook would have been stellar if Zachary Webber could have voiced the male leads throughout the entire book.

There's a lot going on and it can be a bit confusing at times. If you like numbers and a terrible love triangle you'll find this book interesting.

Good but Odd

#BecRereads2018

I really enjoyed revisiting this YA Paranormal novel. It has such a unique concept, and the world building is fantastic. I am endlessly fascinated by this battle between the afterlives.

I can't wait to see how this trilogy wraps up, so I'm just revisiting the first two novels before reading the newly released book 3, which was definitely a good choice, since these novels are addictive and there's a lot to keep track of.

PREVIOUS REVIEW:
This is my first Gena Showalter book, and I definitely need to read more.

Seventeen-year-old Tenley (Ten) Lockwood was locked in an asylum for refusing to sign her Everlife away to the Myriad realm, which is where her parents pledge their loyalties. Myriad is constantly at war with the Troika realm, and both realms want Ten for their side.

Since she's reached the age of consent, she's at risk of ending up in Many Ends (worst place ever), if her Firstlife ends without having pledged herself to Myriad or Troika. Still, the more people torture, push, plead, beg, and manipulate her, the less inclined she is to commit.

This story went in directions I didn't expect and always held my attention. I really enjoyed it. The concept was fascinating.

I loved this trilogy, Ten is a favored heroine of mine. She's surprisingly endearing. I really enjoyed this take on the afterlife and loved the narrative.
