Publisher's summary

I'm not the obvious choice to run Burlington's coolest wine bar - quiet, brooding, clueless about tannin content, and always one wrong turn away from another downward spiral.

But no one seems to mind that I'm a wreck. Besides me. I just focus on getting through each shift until the night a beautiful stranger appears, looking as lost and damaged as I feel.

When a mutual friend calls in a favor, the sexy newcomer winds up crashing on my couch. I don't know if it's his melodic Cornish accent, or his ocean blue eyes, or the rock-hard body with the mysterious scars, but I get the feeling whatever happened to him runs far deeper than those wounds.

Having Jax in my home makes my chest warm. Makes me shiver. Makes me want more. But I've got a pile of baggage and I don't want to be a burden on anyone let alone a man who seems to have enough demons of his own.

Our chemistry is off the charts. His arms feel like home. The last thing I want is to screw this up. Is it wrong to hope we can heal each other? Or will one of us die trying?

Contains mature themes.

enjoyable

I thought the story was good and I like the premise and the characters. unfortunately for me the narration performance was flawed because of the Cornish and Irish accents that didn't match. most people might not have known but to me they were very different depending on who was reading what portion of the novel.

Love

Great story and the narration was a full step up from the previous book. I’m excited to find a new narrator in Dan Calley. Loved this one.

Great story. Great narration.

Garrett Leigh has the amazing ability to intertwine the lives of two characters in a way that convinces me that they will be inseparable forever regardless of how their relationship evolves. I appreciate Garrett Leigh's writing for that experience alone. The fact that the story doesn't unfold exactly the way I expected is a nice bonus.

The narration is also wonderful. I enjoy Michael Dean's performance, and I would happily listen to Dan Calley narrate my old physics book. Probably would have done better in that class if he had.

This was a lovely story about overcoming personal turmoil to build a relationship with someone. If you need an emotional pick-me-up this is a good book to listen too.

Love the angst in this romance!

The love story between Jax and Tanner is so hot. It’s that insta love I enjoy but with that extra angst from their own demons as well as that surprising emergency at the end. I do love a good suspenseful moment that forces the two lovers that much closer to their HEA. Definitely a must read!

a great story

It's review time 🎧
Warning ⚠️: mm romance, self deprecating character, secretive character, winery, a small town, sexy accent.

Narrator score🎧 ; well Michael Dean is a well known narrator to me, I usually love his work and I did in here as well... what I wasn't expecting was the great new narrator I discovered... because owwww boy this voice and this accent!!!! I'm feeling hot in here...

Level of steam🔥: well... I don't know... should I call it a slow burn? Maybe? It took some time... but the story was hot...

Level of anxiety and sadness0😱😢: well we have those two characters one is very secretive about his life he is silent and we know from the very beginning that something happened and when we discovered it , it is sad... but not too much... and from the other side we have this self deprecating sexy wounded man that takes everything with humor and thought his life isn't glitter and roses he copes and I just love him... so to the bog question... has the cry baby cried? So no I didn't in this book... you had some very emotional parts but I didn't cry.

The book itself📖: well apparently I had to write a lot in the previous category... but let's see... I came to this story because I love the narrator... I didn't know about the author much... but I like the way she / he wrote this book... it wasn't a fast story... don't get me wrong it was an insta attraction case from both sides... but the characters had a lot of thier plates... and I liked it... it wasn't fast..m some of the revelations took time even for us the readers and it was great.

What a great story!😃

A great story of overcoming trauma, finding love and being a family. I enjoyed it from the very beginning and was completely caught up and cheering for these guys to triumph.

A Vermont Sky Full of Stars

Heartscape is the second book in the Vino and Veritas series, set in Sarina Bowen’s World of True North, and a great addition to the series.

It’s the first time I listened to both narrators, and I really liked them. They did an amazing job. Their voices match the characters, and their performances are excellent. I loved reading the book and I loved listening to the audiobook. It’s a really great listen. I highly recommend it.

Heartscape is the story of two wounded souls who find themselves and each other in the most unexpected and consuming way. To simply say I loved it sounds like an understatement, but it’s true. I loved it. I loved everything about this book. Tanner and Jax stole a piece of my heart. It’s beyond amazing.

Tanner is a grump and the manager of the Vino and Veritas wine bar. We know he’s been through something that has left him hurting emotionally. Jax is also a loner, but his wounds are both emotional and physical. He’s a lot more open about them though, and also self-deprecating.

There is a lot of self-reflection and soul searching in this story. It slows the pace a bit, but it doesn’t make it boring. On the contrary. It heightens the anticipation and the longing between Tanner and Jax at the beginning, and it gives their connection so much depth and complexity that it makes it feel authentic.

Tanner and Jax are soulmates, and they recognize it the moment they first met. Their attraction and chemistry is undeniable and also extremely strong. But they are both in a place in their lives that doesn’t allow them to be reckless.

I loved how Jax opens up to Tanner without expecting him to do the same. They are both suffering, but they have different personalities and coping mechanism. We find out what Tanner has been going through bit by bit, a perfect reflection of how Jax’s presence in his life changed him. (There’s sensitive talk about mental health, specifically depression.)

There’s also a bit of action, and Vermont’s wilderness plays a major rol in it. I loved seeing this untamed side of Vermont. The great outdoors. The descriptions of the mountains and the trails really take you to this wonderful, beautiful place that deeply contrasts with the cool and urban Burlington scene.

Heartscape, with its gloomy atmosphere, combined with Tanner’s and Jax’s raw emotional turmoil, and the beauty of Vermont’s rough wilderness have been skillfully intertwined to create a beautifully written and deeply emotional story. It gave me all the feels. It is outstanding in every way and definitely five-star material. I highly recommend it.

Great narration!

Both narrators were great, very natural and distinctive characters. Excellent story too, with a sweet slow burn, great chemistry, and believable depth of feeling. I appreciated the upfront and realistic but understanding approach to trauma and mental health issues.
