About this listen

From an internationally best-selling author comes the story of a broken MC Vice President war hero and a woman with dark secrets could destroy everything he loves, including his heart....

Desperate to escape the demons of her past, Dani is on the run. Her plans to hide out in a sleepy Los Angeles suburb turn into a pipe dream, as she is drawn into the secret-filled world of the local motorcycle club. Dani soon learns that her secrets and lies are nothing compared to those kept behind the clubhouse doors. Trying to avoid the suspicious Vice President, she must keep a low profile in order to survive. The trouble comes when the VP has other ideas.

Hero has simple needs. As the Heaven's Rejects Vice President, he has everything he wants at his disposal. But he has his own ghosts that keep him awake at night. When Dani arrives at the clubhouse, he knows he should stay away, but there is something about her dark beauty and the mystery that surrounds her, that makes him burn. There are secrets in her eyes and lies in her smile, and he knows he should put his club first, but Hero's heart and loyalty are about to be tested.

Can a fallen angel with blood-covered wings and the devil himself resist temptation, or will they risk bringing hellfire down on everything that they love?

Contains mature themes.

Entertaining

Jillian Macie and Alexander Cendesa did a good job, although Alexander’s voice would probably suit more to a Mafia story. He’s voice was so obnoxious sounding that would fit a Italian hoodlum capo. Lol Really liked Danni’s charachter a no nonsense girl that was able to defend herself. I really liked the president of the MC will there e a story about him?

Had potential

It’s just an ok book. The end was rushed and not well written . It felt like the author started off taking her time then got tired and rushed to finish the book. I would say it’s a pass.

Idk how to feel

It’s too much going on all at once. Things just boom happening out of nowhere, making no sense. At first it captured my attention but lost it and I haven’t even made it that far. I don’t think I’ll be listening to the rest tbh.

Good Start

to the series, there are some holes in the storyline and a lot maybe too much going on but I think it's all being set up for the continuing series. Narration is done well.

Not bad

It wasn’t the best but not the worse. The wedding song has got to be the worse selection who thought that was a good choice even if they are bikers? I’m sure they could have picked a better one.

Male Narrator SMH

I couldn't deal with the male narrator's voice, but I was able to make it to the end only, because I wanted to see how it ended. I won't be continuing with this series, because of this Narrator. He's not completely horrible it's just his voice is irritating to me. The female Narrator did an excellent job.

Fast Read

Liked the MC’s and the club interactions. Narrators did a good job. There was a HEA, drama, no real angst, and plenty of humor.

Juvenile Writing, Bad Narration

Thought I would like this by the blurb, but in the end I'm surprised I even finished it. The writing was very juvenile. Both characters were immature. There was no heat between them whatsoever to the point I didn't even believe their relationship.

Both of these narrators were meh. The woman's male voices sounded as if she was trying to make the men sound like trolls and the man's female narration sounded like a witch or bad TikTok voice. Also the guys regular voice was as if he wanted the MC to sound like a 1930s gangster.

SPOILER!!!

The FMC roomate/friend gets kidnapped and eventually saved by the MC and is supposedly healing at the same place the FMC is yet she doesn't see or hear about her again until the end of the book? Nor does she ask about her. Weird. Peak moments that were built up with the antagonist gang and other antagonist are solved in one scene where it seemed pointless to build it up. Time frames made no sense throughout. Won't be finishing this series.

Average

Everything about this story was just "okay". The plot was meh (synopsis blurb made it sound better than it was). Pacing was uneven and didn't flow well. The writing was mediocre at best. Conversation seemed stilted, banter was lacking, and spicy scenes sounded repetitive.

Usually I enjoy MC tropes (minus the way club bunnies and non-old-lady women are treated). It's often fun to read about the trouble and vigilante justice that outlaw bikers bring to a story. However, this story didn't give the reader any in-depth details about what made this Heaven's Rejects MC special. You weren't sure what businesses they were involved with; you didn't get a decent introduction into the other characters or their affiliation with the MC (other than a little bit with the club president).

The author failed to help the reader feel connected to the 2 MCs. Hero's emotions for Dani were volatile and all over the board. First, he was attracted to her, but then he didn't trust her because of possible ties with another MC, and at the same time he had supposedly been simultaneously head over heels for her from the get go (but didn't start sharing that until the last third of the novel.) His statements didn't jive with his internal dialogue or outward actions.

Dani was fiercely independent and wasn't afraid to stick up for herself and / or attempt to physically defend herself from unwanted male attention. As a strong FMC, Dani's disdain for being treated as "less than" because she was a woman was refreshing. However, as soon as Hero mentioned he liked her, Dani suddenly was all goo-goo eyed over him and glossed over all of the horrible things he'd said and done to her. It made zero sense considering how awful he had been. Honestly, my last straw came at the end of the novel when Dani *instantly* forgave Hero after he failed to support her in a pivotal moment. It left me flabbergasted and feeling as if the FMC devolved from the beginning of the story into a weaker MC, not stronger.

I hate giving unpleasant reviews. I think most books have redeeming qualities and bright spots. This particular novel was straight up "average" without any shining moments. I won't re-read it or recommend it to friends. I am not invested enough with any of the characters or plots to continue to read further on in the series. Someday I may circle back around to book #3 (Absolution) in the series to see how Rikka's story unfolds, but if it doesn't capture my attention in the first third of the novel, it will most likely be a DNF for me. In 2025, I want to focus on reading books I wholeheartedly enjoy, not stuff I just trudge through to get to the end.
