About this listen

Earth magics collide, forcing Moira Shaughnessy to take a chance on a man who hurt her so badly she’s never forgiven him.

A ranger for the US Park Service, Moira is in serious trouble. Fleeing from Ryan, her cheating husband, who’s a Native American shaman, she stumbles into the arms of a man she never thought she’d see again. He hurt her once by choosing his magic over her. Would she be a fool to take a chance on him now?

Tim hasn’t seen Moira in 10 years. When her name shows up on his patient roster in the rural clinic where he’s a doctor, he can’t believe his luck. Deeply held secrets forced him from her side, but he’s never forgotten her. Never stopped loving her. This time, he’s determined to make different choices, even if it costs him his birthright as the next Arch Druid.

Pursuing very different motives, Tim and Ryan follow Moira deep into the backcountry, catching her in a crossfire between Celtic magic and Native American shamanism. A freak blizzard compounds her problems, taxing her survival skills to the max. Against the specter of almost-certain death, Moira has some hard choices to make.

caught between two men and fighting to stay alive

Hello Darkness by Ann Gimpel is a perfect prelude to her series Alphas in the Wild. It gives us a nice introduction to Moira, Tim and Ryan, and demonstrates the complicated relationships between the characters. The. Storyline is fast-paced and well written, filled with magic, freak weather, sacrifice, death, death-defying experiences and rekindled romance. The audiobook version is very pleasant to listen to and easy to follow. In summary, I highly recommend Hello Darkness if you are looking for a new series or if you are just looking for a quick entertaining read.

weirdly paced and weirdly narrated

i love Hollie Jackson as a narrator so I don't if this was an early work of hers or a creative choice, but though she is really expressive for the female characters, some of the males are very monotonic (like you can hear the emotion but theres not real influctuation of the tone) not enough to put you to sleep but its noticeable and can take away from the story.
From a story perspective some parts feel rushed even if it's apart of the plot/story line, unsure if it was choice because the author wanted to keep this short, didn't know what to write because it would take away from the story. or maybe I've just read way too much and I'm nitpicking.
