Orphaned. Trained to fight. Raised to fear the power of Underhill. Secretly in love with a man who doesn’t want me.
I’m still just Alli, a.k.a. the half-human orphan fae, but my life is looking up for the first time. It only took me my whole 24 years. But when Underhill - the ancestral home of the fae - shatters, making it impossible for any fae to enter, I’m the only one who knows who did it. A secret that will be the death of me if I do nothing.
A brutal madness spreads through the fae as they lose their connection to Underhill, and to save my people, my only choice is to leave all I have fought for and go on the run. Unless I figure out how the hell magic that has existed since the dawn of time was destroyed with a single touch.
Well, an entire life spent fighting to prove myself isn’t going to mean anything at all. I must find the answer to the riddle of Underhill’s shattering. Hunted by the very man I loved once upon a time.
If you love Jennifer L. Armentrout, Sarah J. Mass, Holly Black or Elise Kova, you will love this dive into a world of the fae, forbidden love, and a story that will leave you breathless for more.

Well, half Tlingit, half fae. I loved all the references to Alaska. It was obviously written by someone that knows Alaska well.
It feels like ACOTAR without the TERF-y bits.
Competent MC, a worthy love interest (it's friends to enemies to allies to lovers, slow burn), excellent villain, all the things that make a good story. I read the whole series in about 4 days. I couldn't put it down. It scratched the high fantasy itch. The romance plays a part but isn't the whole story.
It has the easy reading of YA, but with the spice (in book 3) and themes of adult fantasy. The characters are all in their mid-20s and act like it, if not older. No idiot plots here!
Great Fae Adventure

Elizabeth Evans did a fantastic job projecting the full gambit of emotions, attitude, & action throughout the book!
Starting the story, I was hooked from the beginning!
Action from the start, with Alli, Kallik of No House, exploding into a race to be an Elite. From there, you slowly get her backstory, and what a story it is. She's the illegitimate daughter of a high ranking Seelie Fae, raised by her mother in Alaska until her untimely death when Kallik was 5, sent to a fae orphanage, considered a mutt, due to being 1/2 human, and thrown into the Underhill training grounds at the too early age of 16. She spends 8 years learning everything she can to outwit, outfight, and outmanuever her "companions" from the orphanage, also all vying for the best positions in their fae society. She's bound and determined to prove to everyone, including the one who is forbidden to her, that she's worth more than being a "1/2 breed mutt." But at the end of the race, Underhill explodes and she knows who did it, making her a target. Confused and running for her life, she embarks on a fascinating journey to find out why it happened, only to find Lan at every turn.
Lan, Faolan, the one she once would've done anything for, the one she hero worshiped than fell in love with, was put in the Unseelie court at his Chosing. Theirs would be a forbidden love if he hadn't already broken her heart. He's now hunting her, but is throwing conflicting shade.
No, his isn't just some romatasy, no, you get tons of action, magic, giants, shapeshifting fae, a mystery that Kallik is quickly figuring out, and could mean her death. For in the Seelie court is an enemy waiting for her to slip up.
The island where much of this occurs is Unimak, also called "The fae-stastic Magical Island." The world building there reminded me of the town of DuLoc or even Disneyworld, where the fae put on appearances and the humans come to see & throw money at the experience of "real fae." When off island, it's a modern fantasy world with airplanes, cellphones, and cars in the Alaska winter.
Great listen, but me left on one heck of a cliffhanger, with action to the last page, feeling like I was out of breath, making me antsy for the next one! Book 2, A Throne of Feathers and Bone is due out next month... come on Sept. 27th!
Still buzzing from an adrenaline rush!
