About this listen

One of the best-selling Western writers of all time, William W. Johnstone established three of the genre’s most enduring characters in Matt and Smoke Jensen and their stalwart friend Preacher. In Helltown Massacre, the family Jensen lands squarely in the crosshairs of a railroad tycoon trying to run the iron horse through Paiute territory. To protect the land, three honest men will face half a hundred hired guns—impossible odds, unless you’re a Jensen.

First, let me say that it is infuriating as all hell that the ghost writers clearly have never read any of the first 4 Preacher books. Otherwise they would not be constantly re-writing his history. Second, these are decent books but how many different ways/times can you say "a bullet whistled past his ear". Seriously. Lastly, the book contradicts itself. In one paragraph we hear "Preacher is no fast gun" but a little later we hear "Preacher drew his Remingtons with blinding speed". If you know his history, the second line is more accurate. Also, the timing of some of these stories does not make sense. Preacher was 32 in the first book and the year was around 1850. If he is over 80 years old that would put it around 1900.

Decent story but not enough Preacher

The continuing story of Smokes family. Always a pleasant time reading and catching up on the family history.

Smoke, Matt & Preacher at their best

I enjoyed this reading of helltown. it brought to life what had transpired over a period of time of crude businessmen and their greed. they wanted to remove the Indians by bringing the calvary in. Destroy a man's life by framing him of a murder that he did not commit. it shows that evil does not triumph.

Has plenty of action it's another good book. Wish his books were a little longer for the price but his characters are great.

Another good story of the Jensen Family

I liked this book. It was a nice prequel to The Jansen Brand series. I enjoyed the back stories for Smoke, Matt, and Preacher. I lost track of all the gun fights or the number of bad guys killed. Again, A happy ending.

Three Amigos

This is everything an enthusiastic western reader could want. The description of the fighting, shooting, and knifing conflicts leap right off the pages into your consciousness creating a flourish of images producing an action movie in your mind.

Make this into a movie!!
