FBI agent Sean Malone’s homecoming is interrupted by two things - a pleasant surprise from his youth and a deranged serial killer.
The little tomboy who’d followed him and his brothers around is now grown up and drop-dead gorgeous, and he finds himself thinking about her in ways he’d never done before.
Whisper, North Carolina, where she’d spent her childhood summers, is the perfect place for Grace Whitman to open her new business - especially when she finds her adolescent crush has returned as well.
As the two get to know each other all over again, local law enforcement asks Sean to help find the man who has tortured and killed three women. Will the killer follow his pattern and move on, or has Dare County become his permanent hunting ground?

When it comes to a Samantha Cole story, I know I’m going to be glued to my device. I did not want to leave the car! Between the romance and the suspense, I was captivated. My heart belongs to every book hero penned by this author.
Narration: Donovan Kane is a superb narrator with a rich voice. I only noticed one mispronunciation (hearth), but his enunciation, pitch, tone, and dramatic flair more than make up for a single word.
Note: While I received this book as a gifted audiobook copy via Audiobooks Unleashed, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

Did the story keep me engaged: yes
Was I invested in the characters: yes
What did I like about the story? Good pace, action packed with solid well written characters. Grace is intelligent and steady, Sean is smart, funny and caring and together sparks fly.
I enjoyed the serial killer element mixed in with the romance.
Narrator comment: I enjoyed Donovan Kane's narration and think he's done a good job narrating The Devil's Spare Change. He has a nice voice, good inflections and I had no problem distinguishing characters or feeling the emotions of the story.

This is a suspense thriller that has a heavy romance included.
Two people reunited after a long period, view their adult counterpart very differently from that of their younger selves.
However, the romance is being disrupted by a serial killer, which is being frustrating hard to trace.
I loved the narrator's grasp of the characters and story and all added to very intriguing but interesting experience.
Together, they see the problem through.
