About this listen

At the age of 12, Eve Black was the only member of her family to survive an encounter with serial attacker the Nothing Man. Now an adult, she is obsessed with identifying the man who destroyed her life.

Supermarket security guard Jim Doyle has just started reading The Nothing Man - the true-crime memoir Eve has written about her efforts to track down her family’s killer. As he turns each page, his rage grows. Because Jim’s not just interested in reading about the Nothing Man. He is the Nothing Man.

Jim soon begins to realize how dangerously close Eve is getting to the truth. He knows she won’t give up until she finds him. He has no choice but to stop her first....

I have given up on fiction books. So awful. But I remembered Catherine’s book about her time at Disney World and I was there at the same time at Ft Wilderness in my camper. Enjoyed her book so much. (Hoping she will write more about WDW. ) so gave this a try. Oh my word...could not stop listening.

Boy Howdy...Best BookEver!

I found this book extremely fascinating. It kept talking twists and turns. I actually wasn’t sure who the killer was until late in the book. The details were amazing and authentic. I would definitely recommend.

Extremely fascinating

I'm always excited about true crime and the ID channel. I know... it's disturbing lol.
If you're like me, Nothing Man will not disappoint.
I would gladly listen again and definitely recommend it.
Narrators performed exceptionally well.

Great Read

If you like character-driven thrillers, this is one of the best I’ve read in a long time. I don’t think I’ve ever read a thriller with quite this structure before - and it was very well done. It’s not a thriller/romance, either.

I kept forgetting that this was a NOVEL, rather than an actual true crime memoir. The characterization felt true-to-life. Also, the narrators really sold what the author created.

This seems like a very human thriller to me. People in it are as people really are - some brave and tenacious, others making unconscionable choices, and most someplace in between. There were quite a number of characters here who said they were sympathetic, but were also completely unwilling to be helpful. People are so frustrating.

I loved the ending, which I found deeply satisfying. It actually made my pulse pick up, and I was NOT going to bed without finishing it!

CW for graphic descriptions of the aftermath of violence (ie the suffering of victims waiting to be found by rescuers,) and repeated references to rape. None of the violence itself was graphically described.

Superb and original

The performances were great. The story is gruesome but compelling. This is one of the best books I’ve read in years. Don’t miss it.

Outstanding

The performance by both narrators truly brought this well-written story to life. I loved going through with both main characters perspectives. Unique.

Suspenseful

Interesting idea~~the main character wrote a book about surviving an attack of a serial killer who killed her entire family when she was a preteen. After many years and much research into other victim's experiences, she is writing in hopes to catch "The Nothing Man". This man discreetly picks up a copy and is furious by what he reads and vows to 'take care of business ', one way or another...listening to the two people in the different viewpoints and voices was quite interesting and also tied nicely into the recent book I read about other murders in the same area of Ireland, also by Catherine Ryan Howard called "Distress Signals".
If you've read it already, 100% read this, and vice-versa!! They are very complimentary!! It was a little chilling!
I would definitely read another one of her books. The narration was great and the characters seemed realistic, unfortunately (sorry, creepy serial killer Jim!!)
Great epilogue at the end!! A nice wrapup!!

Strong female lead & serial killer 2 main voices

I read or listen to about a book every month. this is definitely on my top 10. Every page keeps you captivated and the engaged. There is never any excess information or descriptions that some books have!

My New Favorite Author!!

But once I was into it, I was hooked. It's told from a crime survivor's perspective and the criminal's perspective during the course of a book about the crime coming together which is authored by the survivor. So it's told in the present and past.
The story rang so authentic that I did an internet search to see if it was based on actual events. I won't tell you what I learned.
Finally, the ending is so fulfilling, which brought everything full circle to me.

Took a while to get into
