About this listen

Pilar Sagasta steps into a world of mystery and intrigue when she travels to Arizona to connect with distant relatives.

This contemporary murder mystery reaches back to the perilous times of the early 20th century that changed the world's political landscape. The story, brimming with memorable characters and haunting historical details, travels back and forth between the familiar, modern world and an early 20th-century Arizona brought startlingly to life by the words in a forgotten diary.

Inspired by actual unsolved crimes in the Arizona Territory of the late 19th century, Here Lies Buried from Cathy Ann Rogers is a novel that carries listeners along with suspense and historical events both repugnant and intriguing.

I liked the start to this series. The plot was well thought out, and the suspects kept you guessing. There are a lot of characters to keep straight, and there isn't a lot of character development for any of them. All in all, it was a good book.

Good, not great...

Cathy Ann Rogers has created some rather memorable and realistic characters in this intriguing mystery novel, although I would have appreciated more detailed character development. I also found the genealogy a little difficult to grasp and somewhat confusing at times. However, the story is engrossing and the narration by Whitney Dykhouse is quite satisfactory.

This book doesn't actually end in a cliffhanger, but it is set up for the next book in what promises to be a very good series.

I liked this book and definitely stayed interested in the storyline. The storyline left room for the sequel and makes you want more in the end. The characters were great but I felt like there could have been more advancement in the character development throughout the story. Maybe the next few books?
