About this listen

Scarcely a year after the events of Cyador's Heirs, Lerial uses his mastery of Order and Chaos, the competing natural forces that shape his world and define the magic that exists within it, to utterly destroy an Afritan military force crossing into Cigoerne. Five years later, Lerial, now an overcaptain and a field commander of Cigoerne's Mirror Lancers, must lead three companies of troops into Afrit on a mission of mutual interest: neighboring Heldya is threatening to invade Afrit, and if that nation falls, Cigoerne is certain to be next.

The mission is both delicate and dangerous; Lerial's value in the effort to repel Heldya is undeniable, but his troubled history against Afrit may reopen old wounds that will never truly heal.

Good Reader, Good Tale but...

The story is great, the characters sympatico and I'm so glad to have Kirby Hayborne back reading. His voice and Modesitt's stories go together in my mind. I went off the recluse books to a new setting with new reader and it didn't sit well. Kirby allows my imagination to get active--don't need the action shouted at me!
BUT..the but in the title is because of the author's choice of character names, especially concerning minor characters. Duke Kiedron and Duke Kesin, bitter enemies--- then also two important officers in the Afrit command: Drusin and Dresile!!! Come'on Modesitt!!!! Be kind to confused fans.

Yet again Modesitt dazles!

I have been a fan of Modesitt for years. He had the ability to bring his world's and characters to life. By the end of the story you want to cry, laugh, or just rejoice with the people he has created. Again anther great Modesitt novel.

Amazing world

After having reading 18 books in this world of chaos and order I still wish there were more!

He's done it again

I keep waiting for a book in this series to be mediocre but as usual Modesitt has produced another great read/listen.

A superb READ!

This story is a superb deal with credit and well worth the money otherwise.

A fabulous story with good world building and character development. If you're familiar with the series this is one of the best. (Get even more out of it if you have read the order mage stories.)

Excellent - one of my new favorites

What made the experience of listening to Heritage of Cyador the most enjoyable?

Listening (or reading) a Modesitt book is like taking a journey with a faithful friend. I've read all the Recluse series and this book and the one preceding are (in my opinion) two of his best.

My favorite author for setting the scene and world

hard to start the 18th book but the last half was worth it. every book in the series has been a wonderful experience and I hope the last few books are even better. I look forward to re reading them all.

Another enjoyable epic of the series

I enjoyed the manner in which the story tied together at the end. In many ways it was what I was hoping would happen but they're not hope

An annoying robotic delivery

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Better delivery on the narration. It sounds like a robot did the narration.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Heritage of Cyador?

I have not finished it yet, and I am not sure I have the endurance to do it with the narration

How could the performance have been better?

Less robotic delivery and certain less of the attempt at comedy accents.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Not a question of the story, just the narration

Any additional comments?

I never knew Steven Hawkings did book narration, he even has a silly accent programmed into his synthesiser.

Ok

I've been reading the recluse series since the very beginning and have always enjoyed them. this one however seems to suffer from an identity crisis... I feel that the author had blended too many plot elements from the imager series, to the point where it almost feels that he forget which book he was working on. such a shame... I do hope he can get back on track with the next book..
