About this listen

A wounded Marine who lost his bear + a BBW physical therapist with a secret + a small town full of gossips = a hot and healing romance!

Curvy Michaela Baker moved to Salem Creek looking for a second chance. Hidden away in the hills and hollers of the Appalachians, she hopes her secrets won't follow her to her new job as a physical therapist. But she didn't count on one of her first clients being the hottest man she's ever seen. Caleb Bentley should be absolutely off limits, but how can she help him recover when touching him sets her body on fire?

Caleb lost part of his left leg to an IED in Iraq, but he was lucky to make it home at all. There aren't a lot of options for a man with one leg in Salem Creek, where it's the coal mine or nothing, but he's determined to rebuild his life any way he can. As far as anyone knows, his biggest worries are keeping him and his brother, Dalton, fed and dodging the town's insistence on treating him like a war hero. But Caleb has a secret of his own: his leg wasn't all the war cost him. He's a bear shifter who's lost the ability to shift. That is, until his new physical therapist wakes up the slumbering beast inside of him and makes it roar.

When Michaela's past threatens her future, the secrets that kept her and Caleb apart may be the only thing that can save them. Can two people with a lot to hide face the truth about each other?

This is a standalone BBW bear shifter romance. No cliffhangers!

It was okay

I feel like it was too short. I needed more. But I liked it nonetheless!

Very southern

I love just about everything written By Zoe chant. That said, if a Southern accent annoys you, don't listen to this book. The characters are very clearly Southern. But the story is fun.

Finding love when you are not looking for it.

Caleb comes home from active duty after getting wounded in an explosion. During a routine physical therapy appointment he meets Mikala. Mikala immediately feels a lustful connection to the tall hunk but is too shy to say anything. Caleb also feels a strong pull but has to idea why. Things take a turn when Caleb finally gets the nerve to ask her out. Miscommunication comes into play and things go horribly wrong but Caleb bear is not having any of it. Something happens (no spoiler read the book) that brings Caleb to the rescue. Well written book that is a total must read by this amazing author.

Cute hanidicaped shifter finds love.

This was a cute story about a vet that returned home with missing part of his leg & foot. He finds love with the new physical therapist who seems to be running from something. No diversity but, the story is well written and adorable. The is worth buying

Bear shifter turned Marine Vet

The only puzzling thing to me was how a bear shifter, who is supposed to be able to know what's ahead by their senses, still winds up caught by an LED. That aside, I thought the story intriguing.
As I've said the previous reviews for other audiobooks, it irritates me when the writer doesn't fully describe what a character may look like. Especially if it's BBW. Not this writer. I applaud Zoe Chant for detailing how the main character looks. Using words other than curvy or voluminous.
It may be a short listen, but I recommend this one. I usually don't purchase (I tend to use credits most of the time) without knowing the author. However, I am pleased that I made the jump and took a chance.
I must also give credit to Paige Johnson Jones. He southern accent just adds to the where the story is set. She pauses when needed and a slight change to voice allows me to know who is talking.

Her accent is on point!

Paige Johnson Jones wins the performance award for her KY accent here. I was so impressed by her performance!
The story was sweet. The take on ptsd for a shifter returning home was good. I enjoyed the love story and the building relationship between them. Great book!

Love anything Zoe Chant

So happy I got the audio version of a story I read ages ago. It's a shifter story of a bodyguard and his fated mate who he's trying to protect from some really bad people.
I love a strong heroine and Ellie is just that. I think it says something about me that I have an easier time suspending disbelieve over shifters and fated mates then the possibility of making the bad guys from organized crime go away? Most likely. 😆 I truly hope we get the rest of the series and audio as I'm rereading it now And remembering how much I loved it the first time.

The Awful Narration

I bought the paper back instead.
The Male Narrator was horrible. Couldn't listen to it.
