About this listen

Amber Farrell, Denver PI, is coming to terms with being part of the paranormal community, but she's about to find that includes very dangerous responsibilities for her. Nothing is quite what it seems, least of all Amber herself, and to survive she must form alliances with powerful groups whose interests are in conflict. But she knows she's expendable, and betrayal is inevitable....

Denver is hosting a meeting of the opposing Athanate creeds who are stirring after a hundred years of peace. War between them would be disastrous for everyone, human and paranormal, but it's Amber who's being blamed for the troubles in the run-up to the Assembly.

And it's going to get very personal....

A fast paced masterpiece.

I can't recomend this series enough. It grabs you and doesn't let go. The series is well written, has a deep and intricate plot that doesn't lag and touches on topics missing in a lot of urban fantasy books (such as dealing with the effects of traumatic events and what happens when you don't deal with them). Well thought out and executed.

Better and Better

The new narrator is excellent! Love the complexity of the Athanate world. Amber, the main character is someone that I can cheer for and cry for. As the peripheral characters develop the story gets deeper and deeper. Again the female characters are well defined and muli-layered! Cannot wait for Bian's Tale!

Book 2 Amber Farrell: The family comes to come together.

There is lots of action and gun play in this 52 chapter book. Amber begins to deal with being both vampire and werewolf. Supposed to be impossible but there she is with it. The book adds more mystery and fun times as she weaves between vampire politics and trying just not to get killed by the bad guys for her blood. Plus not to have sex with any one girl or werewolf because of her blood and a promise. It is tough being Amber.

Excellent audiobook for a fantastic series.

This audiobook is of a novel that I've read a handful of times via my kindle. The reading was articulate, and the verbal characters distinctive. The action scenes described in an appropriate manner that ensured vivid visualization. There were even a handful of unexpected verbalizations that had me laughing out loud.

The only issue I noted with the reading was the occasional sound of Julia swallowing. At first, these seemed to detract from the reading, but as the book progressed, I found them to be an enjoyable addition to the overall narration.

I highly recommend this audiobook and place in within my top five favorites of all time. Enjoy!

Wonderful!

Narrator Julia Motyka really nails all the characters, especially Amber. The story is not your normal paranormal girl meets boy. There is a full complex story going on here. I have all the books in print so far and will be getting all the audio books when they come out.
Mark keep on writing in this series!

Loved this narrator

I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars. This character and this series is utter perfection. I desperately love urban fantasy. Kim Harrison, Laurell K. Hamilton and Rachel Aaron are just a few of my favorites.

Mark Henwick creates the most interesting, gripping, tense storylines. Everything feels fresh and once I start listening I am immediately transported away.

We get a great deep dive into Amber Farrell’s life, her past and her future with this book. Mr. Henwick gives as much love and attention to the secondary characters as he does Amber.

The action is gritty and tense and he is the master of suspenseful writing when it comes to the politics being played out in Amber’s life.

I purposely do not give out spoilers or reiterate the synopsis of the story so sorry to those who want hints at what makes this a 5 star read for me.

Masterfully written, exciting story, equally character and plot based and just exciting from the first word to the last.

Fangs of 2 kinds

Athanates of 2 opposing creeds are scheduled to meet in Denver. Conflict is brewing between the creeds and Amber finds herself caught in the middle. There is something special about her blood that both creeds of Athanate want. The army wants her back under observation. The FBI is developing an unhealthy interest in her activities. Life is getting dangerous for Amber. Fortunately, Amber kinda likes dangerous.

But Amber is not just a vampire (Athanate). She has a wolf for a spirit guide, revealing that she is also an untrained Adept. She has cross-infused with her werewolf kin, Alex, which is unheard of until now. No one is sure how this will play out except that it could make her become unstable.

With her unique hybrid nature, Amber begins to build an unusual family of her own who have her back.

Hidden Trump winds up with a lot of action and a big bang.

Julia Motyka takes over the narration for the rest of the series and does an excellent job giving each character their own voice and personality.

Riveting

This book was continuous action, The main character is slowly becoming or unbecoming something as the story progresses. Skylar is keeping so much information from Amber, so she does what feels correct at the time. Narrator does a good job with the characters and the Entire Storyline.

Fantastic Series... Teeth Nashung

The first was good. I enjoyed it. ... The second? There wasn't enough. There was so much. I forgive the first. It set the stage. It started guns blazing. It ended the same. The second started tense and thick with the right kind of character building and scene setting. It was building and building. The arc was finished, but the ground is set for so much more.
