Publisher's summary

Proud Highlander Diana Maclean refused to yield to the English king... or to any member of her family's enemy: the treacherous Clan Campbell. Instead, determined to free her imprisoned mother, she steals into a castle dungeon right under the nose of handsome, powerful Rory Campbell... only to become an outlaw of the British Crown.

But fate would bring them together again. And this time, Rory offers his protection -- and his passion. As their desire sweeps them into a dangerous liaison, Rory and Diana become prisoners of a heritage that forbids their union. Then swords clash once more, and Diana must choose between loyalty to her clan and country -- and a love that could put an end to hate forever...

Okay'ish...

This book wasn't my favorite, though the story was good. I felt like it was just a downer all the way through. Way too much political stuff and little in the romance department. The characters were enjoyable and I was fairly disappointed with what Amanda Scott determined to be the fate for some. I sped the book up to 1.20x because the narrator, though good, was pretty slow speaking, and then I sped it to 1.35x just to get the book over with. About 3 hours left was when the book finally got to the point and interesting.
I enjoyed the first book more than this one, but when I got to this one I was saddened that the following in the series weren't related to each other. We did see a blink of Maggie but that was about it, but apparently the next one is about Duncan and Mary from this story so hopefully it will be a better story.
Narrator was good. She has what seems to be a genuine Scot accent so it took a minute to adjust but her narration was enjoyable.

I got this on sale for $3.49 and it was worth it just because it was part of a series. But, as a stand alone book I'd have been disappointed. Definitely not worth a whole credit.

Just Ok

If you can make it past the first half of the book, the story gets pretty good. This book is more adventure than romance. The romance is weak.

Highlander - Hatfield and Mccoy

This book is historically detailed with added mystery and light romance. The story reminds me of the (USA) Hatfield and McCoy rivalry but with a Highland twist..

I enjoyed the story and the characters I just wish there was more "spark" between the two main characters (Rory and Diana). There was romance - it just seemed a bit disjointed because the sensuality was limited. Because of this I give this book 3.5 stars.

Overall, this book is NOT a total disappointment. I still really liked it because of the adventure, mystery, and the family struggles. If you enjoy interesting historical stories that are light on steamy romance then this will be a winner for you. If not, you might want to skip this one and go on to the next.

Great highland story

A brave heroine and a proud hero equals a great book. I would have given it a 5 if the narrator could have read the male voices better. She did a good job, just not great. this book was exciting and interesting. I will try another book from this author.
