About this listen

Bitcoin was promised to be a liberating technology, a free market alternative to state-controlled money. But that promise was broken after a small group of insiders took over the project and fundamentally changed Bitcoin's design.

Few people know the true history of Bitcoin and its original design due to years of heavy censorship, social media engineering, and tight information controls online. Hijacking Bitcoin destroys the most popular narratives that surround Bitcoin and sets the historical record straight.

Roger Ver's passion and pain come through as he tells the story of a beloved project corrupted in front of his eyes. Written by one of the most prominent figures in the cryptocurrency industry, this book is impossible to ignore.

From the inside flap:

Bitcoin has been captured and changed for the worse. That's the undeniable conclusion of Hijacking Bitcoin. Chocked full of history and inconvenient truths, this book goes on a myth-busting rampage against the most popular narratives that surround BTC.

Is Bitcoin truly decentralized? Is it supposed to be digital gold or digital cash? Did the original design really have scaling problems? Roger Ver addresses these questions head-on and provides uncomfortable answers.

Roger Ver is the world's first investor in Bitcoin startups and has been a prominent name in the cryptocurrency industry since the beginning. Yet, as he confesses in the introduction, this book is not a love story. It's a devastating exposé of the corruption, propaganda, and centralization of power in Bitcoin.

Amazing!!

I am so glad this story is being told. As an outsider who received most of my information from BTC core proponents, I never knew the massive internal war regarding the block size. It wasn't until I heard Steve Patterson talk about this on a Youtube video just a few years ago that I learned this was even an issue. And until this book I didn't know how deep the battle went. Thanks to Roger and Steve for writing this, and Steve remains one of the best audio book narrators.

Great

Great overview. Still don’t fully understand block chain; however, I also am not an expert on economics. So a good primer on core issues around bitcoin as a technology and the sociopolitical ramifications of it.

Detailed history of bitcoin and the block size wars

Wish I would have known more about this back in 2017 when the split was happening. I was mislead and sold my Bch for more btc at the time and sided with the small blockers. Now with hindsight after using both chains I see the major benefits of BCH and how BTC was hindered keeping the blocks small and adding different solutions that didn’t benefit Bitcoins future as a useful currency.

Fascinating thidden history of bitcoin

The story of how Bitcoin leadership fractured under the weight of personal incentives and turned political. How one version emerged victorious through repressing competition and controlling the narrative. The bright story we all wanted to believe in turned out to be a heavily engineered piece of propaganda!

I was there from the beginning and this story matches what I experienced.

This book was very well written and in the end it inspired me to get back into BCH and Bitcoin development after having given up in 2020. Thank you Roger and Steve very much for writing this. We are lucky to have you both.

This is a critical book at this time

Reading this book has confirmed and explained conclusions I had already come to on my own. To find out that all the trouble with scaling and all the complaints of high network fees was intentional does not surprise me in the least. I am sad to say this but it is exactly what I expect from humanity every second of the day. Find something pure and just and rape it...

digital cash is the hijacked goal

The book is entertainingly written and narrated while being informative at the same time. I wish I would have learned about it without the author getting arrested.
