Publisher's summary
As a motorcycle dispatch rider in London during World War II, Maggie Cameron faced her share of dangerous situations. Yet none filled her with as much dread as the thought of moving to America to join her GI husband, John MacPhee, after having been separated for six months. Except for the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, everything in Lilac is different from her beloved Scotland. How long before John discovers his Scottish bride is completely unsuited for life as a banker’s wife?
Life in the orderly MacPhee household has been completely upended since John’s return from the war. His father’s sudden injury puts John in charge at work and at home, leaving little time for battle scars to heal. Will Maggie forgive him for dragging her away from the country she loves and into his chaotic life?

As war moves ever closer, the sleepy English village of Crowmarsh Priors settles into a new sort of normal: Evacuees from London are billeted in local homes. The nightly German air raids become grimly mundane. Rationing curtails every comfort. Men leave to fight and die. And five women forge a bond of friendship that will change their lives forever in this engrossing novel of loyalty, loss, and love in the shadow of World War II.With the hardships of war intensifying every day, the women band together to defeat formidable enemies and find remarkable strength within themselves to help one another. It is a war-forged loyalty certain to endure years and distance. When four of the women return for a celebration fifty years later, their mission is not simply to commemorate or remember. They’ve returned to confront a traitor whose actions cost countless lives — and to avenge one of their own at last.

Clean historical romance
Here we meet a new bride from WWII and coming to America for the first time. Life was different in America where war did not ravish its land and knock the people down. There was an abundance. There rude people. There were those only out for themselves.
It was nice meeting Lilac and Pamela Ferguson and Rebecca Fine. Sweet quick clean historical romance. Rebecca’s voice was just what was needed to help set the tone of this romance. A few of the male voice could have held a bit more variation. Overall this was an enjoyable story.

What happens when the war is over?
It can't be easy to draw a nuanced picture of a certain historical period in 130 minutes, but Pamela Ferguson pulls it off, aided by solid narration by Rebecca Fine, whose "Maggie" voice was particularly appealing. I was especially moved by Maggie's simultaneous awe at the abundance of food and consumer goods in America and frustration (yes, even anger) at the realization that most Americans (her husband's family among them) are utterly oblivious to the shortages and suffering that continue in Europe even after the war is over. One has to wonder how many real-life war brides experienced those same conflicting emotions.
"His Scottish War Bride" wasn't so much a romance as it was a glimpse at what happens "after" "happily ever after," about the adjustments in store for two people who love each other, but who really don't know each other very well. Having fallen in love under extraordinary conditions, how will Maggie and John adjust to the "ordinariness" of daily life? I have the impression this book is the first in a series, and that we'll soon get a close-up look at some of Maggie's shipmates and fellow war brides as they explore their own post-war marriages. I'll be along for the ride.

Fun, sweet
This novella was a lot of fun to read, it gave a really interesting glimpse into life as a war bride going to live overseas with a husband that you only had a short time with.
The descriptions were really well done, it was easy to picture the characters and what was happening. The characters were also well done, especially for a book this length, they were very realistic.
The narration was excellent, the character voices sounded real including the male voices and the pacing was spot on.
I'd love to read more of these with the brides arriving to all different kinds of welcomes. In this book everything works out well, but in real life war brides ended up in all kinds of marriages from loving to well... ones to be regretted, it would be good to see different experiences shown in books like this one.

Cute WWII time period with a spunky main character
His Scottish War Bride by Pamela Ferguson is the story of an American GI, John, and his Scottish bride Maggie. Maggie and John met and were married during the war. Once John returns stateside, Maggie arrives to live with John in Lilac. She's spunky, opinionated, and not ready to become a complacent, dutiful bankers wife, which is what she's afraid John is looking for, isn't it? This is a cute story and a quick listen. The characters have fun, unique personalities and if you're a fan of Pamela Ferguson's stories, I'd definitely check this one out. That being said, Mercy Me, another one of Ms. Ferguson's stories taking place in Lilac, was more up my alley. While this one was definitely cute, Mercy Me just caught my attention a bit more. So I'd recommend checking that out out too!
Rebecca Fine did a good job with the narration and she brought the characters to life. She voiced the various accents well and was easy to listen to. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

Lovely Story!
Maggie is a World War II bride who emigrates to the United States from
Scotland to meet her new husband, John. She doubts she will be able to
fit in with her new family and town but wont compromise her values.
John’s family improves their moral character and outlook because of
their interactions with Maggie. This was a lovely story. The ending was
rather abrupt. I was gifted a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an
honest review.

Short and sweet
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book is a sweet but short romance. It would have been nice if the book had been a little longer, going more in depth if the McPhee life post war with their new family.
In all, I recommend this book.

Wonderful Story & Listen🎧 Heartfelt & Enjoyable!
This is an amazing historical romance, it is well written and well told with interesting storylines that captivated me from start to end. This is a novella sized book but Pamela Ferguson fit a lot of story into it, a story that flows beautifully and has a lot of heart. She gives a nice glimpse of the times and what life was like for some after WWII, it is a great reflection of history. During war time, men stationed overseas meet the love of their lives. Maggie Cameron a dispatch rider for the Women’s Royal Naval Service, met her husband, John, an American Serviceman while he was stationed in the UK. When the war ended he was dispatched back to the US promising to be reunited soon. War Brides were very common and ships were sent for them to be brought to the US. I admire the courage of these women, leaving the homes they know for a life unknown. Maggie and John reunite when the ship docks in the NY harbor. She sets off to start her new life with her new husband and family. This is a heartfelt and realistic story, it captures the struggles she faces adjusting to a new life, a new family and country. John is supportive but has issues of his own, struggles with PTSD. I highly recommend this sweet and entertaining story.
I listened to the Audible edition, Rebecca Fine a terrific narrator and voice performer. She brings the characters to life, gives each their own voice and personality. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen🎧
