About this listen

Keller is a regular guy. He goes to the movies, works on his stamp collection. Call him for jury duty and he serves without complaint. Then every so often, he gets a phone call from White Plains that sends him flying off somewhere to kill a perfect stranger.

Keller is a pro and very good at what he does. But the jobs have started to go wrong. The realization is slow coming, yet when it arrives, it is irrefutable: Someone out there is trying to hit the hit man. Keller, God help him, has found his way onto somebody else's hit list.

Gallows humour at its best

What did you love best about Hit List?

The dry humour and the dry wit.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The overall plot is less important than the mini-plots as Keller's ingenious plans unfold, while negotiating this dangerous profession.

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

He perfectly captured Keller's dead-pan dry humour.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Just sheer enjoyment, transports you out of your daily humdrum life and keeps you on the edge of your seat rooting for Keller, while also caring about some of the victims (but not too much).

Any additional comments?

Keller's sense of place: I love New York and stories set in New York. I discovered Keller years ago. Being able to enjoy Keller in another medium was such a treat (not always a given). In this case it was a Bull's Eye.

A BIT TEDIOUS AND BARELY WORTH THE CREDIT

Another reviewer commented that this novel was like watching paint dry. That comment came to mind several times as i persevered through to the end and reached it with a sigh of relief. I like Block usually but this was badly in need of an editor or someone to say 'Enough with the cross-talk between Keller and Dot - it is really starting to grate!'. Listen at your peril.

It's hard to be a Hit Man out there....

What did you love best about Hit List?

Love the character of Keller.....he just goes along clamly killing people and he is so inventive!

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Plot was great enough to have me obtain the second book...good one also.

Which scene was your favorite?

Killing the guy in the restaurant was very ingenious.....I always thought hit men just shot people.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listened to it in a cuple of days and looked forward to getting back to it each time.

Any additional comments?

If a series about a killer can be "gentle" this is it.

Outstanding but......

If you could sum up Hit List in three words, what would they be?

Great Suspense Novel

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Always a good storr from this author

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

He's one of the best in the business. Great voice, easy to listen to, great acting out the different voices of characters. Top Notch. The author thinking he could replace George Guidall on the next book is just beyond ridiculous.

Any additional comments?

Author is great author and George Guidall is a great reader. HOWEVER AUTHOR IS NOT A GOOD READER, HE HAS A WHINEY NASALY VOICE AND DOES NOT DO ANY OF THE CHARACTERS SO DONT GET THE NEXT BOOK THAT HE READS IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THROUGH AND I RETURNED IT

Great listen.

Some parts I had to listen to twice. But this series is getting better and better? George Guidall is the best and he really brings these characters to life! I hope he reads more of this series.

Can’t get enough of Lawrence Block

The story is classic Lawrence Block with intrigue and generous humour. Wish he would revive Keller. Great read.

It was surprisingly funny and witty in places

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I am not sure if my friends read the same type of stuff I do, but I would recommend it just for the narrator and dialogue.

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

George Guidall could read a physics text book and make it interesting.

Great second book in the Kellar series but…

I absolutely love the Hit man Kellar series. This book is great, and you need to read it second to do the series in order, but the stories here are not as good as #1 Hit Man or #3 Hit Parade. If you’re new to Kellar, pick either of those to start with. If you’ve read Hit Man and are doing the books in order just know they get better.

I see Audible claims to have a version of this narrated by the author and I would recommend that. When he (Lawrence Block) reads his own book the humor is impossible to miss. This George Guidall version is just not as snappy and entertaining of a performance.

Consider the abridged version

I just finished the book and now understand why there is an abridged version also available.
