About this listen

The shooting death of a rap mogul is the first link in a sinister chain ensnaring New York District Attorney Butch Karp. With his wife and daughter on a New Mexico retreat, Karp is left to fend for his teenaged sons and himself. Descending into the hip-hop underworld to prosecute a killer, Karp comes head-to-head wih Andrew Kane, a powerful would-be mayor whose corrupt web of influence leads Karp to unveil a shocking church sex-abuse scandal. In a world where secrets can be buried for an often-deadly price, Karp discovers there is no safe haven.

Very good not a HOAX

I think this may be the best book so far in this series. Strong characters, strong plot, and great narration made for a wonderful listening experience.

Loved it!

This was the second listening, and it still was fresh and spellbinding. 1 star off on performance as the narrator tended to use the child voice for every character. 1 star off on the story as it would present pieces out of order then back-up multiple times to cover what had happened from different character perspective, instead of weaving the perspectives chronologically.

The story has a great plot, fast moving, and keeps you interested.

The voices! The narrator is ok, but the voices of Boom, Flynn, the twins, even Karp sound cartoonist.

Good Writer - Forced Plot

I like Butch Karp and his entourage of characters. I like Tanenbaum's ideas and the unpredictability of his narrative. But so much happens in the last 20% of this thing that it became distracting. I'll probably buy the next in this series particularly if it's read by Richard Ferrone. If you're looking for a total escape from the day's chores or commute - okay, that's what Hoax does.

enjoy this book like I've enjoyed the whole series

very good storyline couldn't stop listening to it 2 days awake until 3:00 a.m. though I don't understand how the character Tron went from being next to a member of the family as a friend to Lucy since a small child and that was being described as a acquaintance that's his backstory answers a lot of questions looking forward to the next book in the series

Shocked and Appalled

I'm an avid listener to many books and authors, but this book struck many nerves! Racist much? Blacks, Jews, Hispanics and Indians. This really doesn't sound "fictional" at all - i think your disdain for these people comes through loud and clear. I'd would give some pointers as some of the dialogue is super hokey and not believable in the least. My first time listening and my absolute last. I love Richard Ferrone (which is why I chose this book) but I was insulted by the racist connotations contained therein. #neveragain
