Publisher's summary

In the sequel to the New York Times best-selling novel Hope Never Dies, Obama and Biden reprise their roles as BFFs-turned-detectives as they chase Obama's stolen cell phone through the streets of Chicago - and right into a vast conspiracy.

Following a long but successful book tour, Joe Biden has one more stop before he can return home: Chicago. His old pal Barack Obama has invited him to meet a wealthy benefactor whose endorsement could turn the tide for Joe if he decides to run for president.

The two friends barely have time to catch up before another mystery lands in their laps: Obama’s prized Blackberry is stolen. When their number one suspect winds up full of lead on the South Side, the police are content to write it off as just another gangland shooting. But Joe and Obama smell a rat....

Set against the backdrop of a raucous city on St. Patrick’s Day, Joe and Obama race to find the shooter, only to uncover a vast conspiracy that goes deeper than the waters of Lake Michigan - which is exactly where they’ll spend the rest of their retirement if they’re not careful.

It’s just ok.

It’s exactly like the first book. Fun as the first one, but not too much.

Not bad, but not quite as fun as the first.

I enjoyed the story and the narration. However, I liked the absurdity of the dialogue and action more in the first book. This one was decent, but a bit muted. Still a pretty satisfying listen.

This Follow Up Fell Just A Bit Flat

So the adventure continues in this follow up to the previous buddy detective fanfic featuring pairing of former prez and vice prez turned current prez, Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

The narrator once again gives a good, solid performance as the voice of this fictionalized version of Joe Biden, but this sequel feel just a bit flat for me in comparison to the first one. Whereas I found the mystery angle of the last one not all that engaging, I can say I flat out didn't like this one at all. I just wasn't as sold on the mystery at the center of the story this time around.

I also think what may have sunk the sequel a bit more was that it seemed there wasn't much of the Obama Biden bromance team up at the first time. This one put them at even more of odds with each other and it was more of Joe just running off on his own and Obama showing up just when he needed to. Not bad for a political mystery fanfic, but was greatly surpassed by its predecessor.

A little disappointed

I love the first novel Hope Rides however the second one was a little more drawn-out little less action and overall just not as exciting or interesting as the first novel. I love the first one so much I was excited to see there was a second one but it left me a little disappointed.

The storyline really wasn't enjoyable or rational.

I thought the first book was ok and listened to the send for that reason. But I struggled to hold an interest with the storyline 😒
