Publisher's summary

The gladiators of Sunja face new challenges—and make new allies—in the second volume of this action-packed fantasy series.

The warriors comprising the House of Ten begin their training under punishing mentors and a drink-loving taskmaster. Within the city of Sunja, Borchus works to establish a network of spies to aid the newly formed house’s cause.

Meanwhile, a vengeful Halm hunts down Skulljigger for bloody retribution, house master Goll realizes one of his pit fighters possesses potential beyond everyone’s wildest expectations, and shadowy elements conspire to make the Ten’s opening matches on the sands their last.

Perfect for fans of Gladiator and A Game of Thrones!

Great narrator, average story

As always, great narrator. Not the best story of the series.. Pigknot's twist unnecessary, and almost too strange that Halm would be that troubled by his dilemma with the father/son thing.

continued blood on the sand

Keith Blackmore's fun writing style really works well with John Lee's performance. you need to read/listen to book 1 for this to make sense but it is worth your time and attention. Also check the audiobooks from Blackmore's other books.

Bloody Good!!

It's rare that a second book is nearly as good as the 1st but this one lives up. Great narration. Can't wait to listen to #3.

A well done installment

I'm enjoying this series so far. The storyline is great, exciting, and intriguing, but the characters and their development are what really hook me. Blackmore is, in my opinion, excellent at building characters. I love his dialog, and the phrases he comes up with are bested by none and rivaled by few. Action, adventure, suspense, horror, and hilarity. He is one of my favorite authors.
I must admit that it took a book or two, not this series, of listening to John Lee narrate for me to appreciate his reading. Now I enjoy it, and he is doing this story well.

memorable characters

Great continuation of the series as the free trained gladiators form their house of Ten and figure out how to win by fair means and foul. Loved the humor in the training scenes - the squats competition was perfection. Highly recommended.

Gladiators Galore

Lots of arena action, fair story line, good narration. Arena action seems a bit repetitive, especially by the end of book 2.
