About this listen

Every town has its history and skeletons, but Silent Bend, Mississippi's are darker than most. Ruled from the shadows by the House - the immortal born and their aging, enslaved bitten - everyone knows not to go out after dark and that the police will never look into crimes involving blood.

Alivia Ryan didn't know the man who claims to be her father through a will even existed until she inherits the Conrath plantation. Instead of the sleepy house she expects, she finds a mansion and a staff who look at her with fear in their eyes.

Ian Ward tried to kill Alivia the first time they met and then insisted he train her to defend herself against the House, who he claims will try to manipulate and take her in for their own political reasons. And the growing attraction between them will threaten their lives - Ian is a sworn enemy of the House.

In Silent Bend, people disappear, the threat of a demented king and the legend of his resurrecting queen hang over everyone's heads, proving loyalty means far more than blood. You'd better watch who you trust in this town....

Excellent!

**Review for complete series **

I believe this is my first from Ms. Taylor and I was hesitant but the premise sounded promising and I was quickly running out of new book/authors read. I am  surprised to say that I was actually quite blown away. Here's why:
*great world building and character development.
*a relatable & like-able heroine and lovable and equally hate-able cast.
* All books were available on audio! Huge plus!! ( Only the 3rd, I believe,  had a HORRIBLE narrator, thankfully the rest were good)
*story kept me engaged from start to finish!!
It was quite not put- downable.
*can't wait to sink myself into more tales from this author!

My only negative,  which isn't really a negative for many,  is that although there is romance, it is VERY CLEAN. As in, no SEX.

There are some adult situations and settings but nothing graphic by any means. I wish this had been labeled as young adult to give me a heads up, but this is one I actually am not mad about it not being as adult as I usually like them. I was engaged and did not really miss the adult content but would've liked it more I think, if it had lol.

This book was so very enjoyable! Romance and a town full of fear and vampires.

Narrator needs remedial English lessons

The story was okay, a bit trite but decent twist on the genre.

BUT the narrator needs remedial English lessons. She mispronounces simple words, gets words mixed up or just flat wrong. Of course it might be the author needing the work for some.

Examples.

1 Impasse is pronounced with a LONG a sound while the narrator uses a short a. It doesn't make the speaker sound cultured, it makes them sound like a dope.

2 rogue and rouge, rouge is red, rogue is something like a thief. This would only make sense if the house was referred to as rouge earlier, tossing it in now makes the book read as odd.

slow middle

I found this to be an interesting and unique story line. The story started off fast paced and slowed considerably in the middle. If you can stick it out it picks up again toward the end.

Ready or Not

Ready or not, our heroine is thrust into a world she never knew existed with lots of complications. I enjoyed this story and the possible future books that will stem from it but the narrator sounded so young, it was distracting.

Storyline has so much promise

This book has so much promise and I intend to continue to listen to the other books. However, Renee's voice sounds slightly young for this particular book. While I appreciate her talents I feel she was a poor choice for this series.

I do however love the twist on your typical vampires, going into depth about Born and bitten. It's an interesting concept that keeps you captivated as you learn more about the Royals and Liv's family heritage. Well written and descriptive.

Regarding the romance, it's not as intense as I had anticipated. If you're looking for vampire steamy this particular book didn't leave me saying "hot dang". This isn't to say the other books won't be a little more intense but for book one I was anticipating some fun that never really got started.

3/5 ain't bad

I liked it. the so called twist was completely predictable in my opinion, but I still enjoyed it. narrator was good, although at times the fake southern drawl used for different characters became irritating. story had a good pace

Ehh

The narration is a bit juvenile, she sounds like a teenager. This book was supposed to be steamy, but it is more like a YA.

Onto the next

I’m curious what comes next. It’s a light read. Not heavy romance, more relationship/world building book. Enjoy it for what is: escape. 😉
