About this listen

EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) therapy has been successfully used for the past 30 years for those who have suffered PTSD in the military. Recently, it has been recognized as a useful therapy for other forms of trauma.

For the author of this book, it was a lifesaving means of reprocessing painful experiences from her upbringing that continued to affect her life. Because “hurt people hurt people”, Marie Pflugrad tells her story of pain and relief through EMDR to demonstrate how the past can be the past and not a shadow darkening the present.

Marie tells her story of what EMDR therapy was like from a patient's perspective. She shows how it created a profound reinterpretation of her sense of her entire life, her relationships and her spiritual journey. I like how Marie gives concrete examples by describing incidents and the unique characteristics and backstories of people in her life in straightforward language. Very few books on EMDR are from this perspective or in this depth of meaning. She also connects it with her personal Christian beliefs in a moving and fascinating way. I was also intrigued by Marie's unusual take on pornography which I have rarely heard articulated.
