Publisher's summary

Is someone you love addicted? Have you found yourself wondering if all efforts to "help" or "fix" your loved one are really going in the right direction? Addictions to prescription meds, opioids, alcohol and other substances are growing at exponential rates and ripping our families apart. What are the best strategies to help someone in bondage to a substance that drive real results?

When Jason Coombs' mother discovered her son was addicted to drugs and alcohol, she searched everywhere for resources and guidance that would grant her a spark of hope. She researched websites on the topic only to find a mixed bag of mediocre suggestions and an array of conflicting opinions. She was desperate for tools that could drive measurable results. Yet, her seemingly endless search for helpful guidance led her down a rabbit hole with no end in sight.

Unhooked is the book, written by her recovered son, now leading his own treatment center, she wishes would have been available back then.

A must read for family members of someone addicted to drugs!

I cannot recommend this book enough. It has changed our family forever!!! Not only does he share his story, which help in understanding the mindset of an addict. But he also provides guidance for how to respond effective and support without enabling. This book will change you, I promise!

Great book!

As a family member of an addict, this was a great resource. There is a fine line between helping and enabling and this book helps define those lines.

Self revelation.

I just finished your book. I have found it eye opening to my enabling of my son's addiction. It was hard to accept but I know deep down I was doing this all along. I now know I have to stop the way I allow him to manipulate me and put on my "Emotional raincoat "as you so very well put it. Thank you so very much for sharing your story. I know it is going to put me on the right path to recovery. God bless you and your family 🙏 As a side note I don't understand why it's so hard and expensive for people without the means to get long term in house treatment. Unfortunately that has been a hard obstacle to overcome for my son.

If you have an addicted love one BUY THIS BOOK!!!!

I am so thankful for this book. It has been life changing for me and so very helpful. Before reading this book I had no hope. I was lost, scared and confused. Navigating through the trauma of a loved one that is addicted isn’t for the weak. After reading the book I now understand the disease better. I didn’t cause it, I can’t cure it but I can certainly can contribute to it. I am off the beach and my emotional raincoat is on. I am able to love him unconditionally with boundaries and respect. I now have hope and a new set of lenses. He is so worth it. I only wish I read this book sooner. I am going to buy copies to hand out to others. Anyone walking aside an addicted loved one needs to read this book. Thank you for doing what you do Jason. I only hope a book is in the works for the recovering addict. You have a way with words and your story is so darn inspiring. You are an overcomer!!!! Keep being a light in this dark world!!!

A healthy base for all aspects of life.

We all experience ups and downs in our lives. Some of those peaks are higher than others, and some of the valleys are lower. While listening to this book as a person without addiction to traditional things, I found a new way of honing myself thanks to Jason’s insight and guiding words.

The perspective given by Jason is raw and relatable. By sharing his story with great detail we are all able to comprehend how to help or be helped. Backed by factual based study and peer reviewed science Jason makes this very digestible while still keeping the core of recovery strong and structured.

Thank you Jason for putting this into the world. It has helped me, and I know it will help anyone it reaches!

Gave me a new perspective about my husband

Thanks so much for writing this book. I had been holding on to a lot of resentment towards my husband and other addicts I had opened my heart to in the past. This book really allowed me to see that the hurt done to me wasn’t out of malice. It was the disease carrying these loved ones through their captive emotions. Looking forward to getting further connected to Brick house for additional support for my husband and I as he continues his recovery

Wow, just wow, must read

If you have a loved one who is an addict. whether you've known for years or just finding out.
This is a must read book!!!

I can't stress this enough, read this book.

The perspective from not only Jason (the ex addict), his mother, father, spouse, and other family members is invaluable.

This is not to say this path or way will work for you but it does help you understand more of where you loved one is coming from, how the disease takes hold and how our parts play into this.

Also after listening to the book. Which also gives you tools and his website.
I actually reached out and Jason responded, I was so shocked. His advice helped me on the start of my journey with my husband.
I have a long way to go, but I am now learning I did not cause this, I cant control it, and I cant cure it. I also learned I don't want to contribute to this disease, but find a way to help him towards his choice of recovery.

Again, a must read if anyone in your life is an addict

This book was exactly what I needed in this stage of parenting a son with addiction. Thank you for being real, giving me steps to take as a loved one & most of all for giving me hope that I can be happy again some day.
