About this listen

What if you had an impossible crush?

Impossible because she's Ellen Foster. The beautiful, smart, and possibly fragile photography girl. You're Cam Campbell. The guy who plays football 24/7 with no life. But what if during junior year, you decide finally to try for her phone number--until this glitter-crazed new girl ruins your plan? Worse, the girl is Irish, awkward, and insists you and Ellen should become best friends--with her! Only you don't want to be friends with a human tornado, and you think Ellen might need to stay a crush. This is because after one interaction, you've discovered Ellen Foster really is fragile. Your problems and secrets are too big for anyone to understand.

What if you couldn't resist?

But what if the three of you wind up assigned to a group photography project, where rumors are already circling about the new girl being ridiculous? You know she's nice but very alone, so you convince your crush to help protect the new girl. Suddenly, working on the project makes hanging out, texting, talking, and even high school seem fun and completely normal when it's anything but normal.

What if you kiss?

What if you kiss Ellen Foster and it's perfect enough to make you believe in things you shouldn't? You tell her secrets and share your dreams. You make the kinds of promises and create plans to be together that might be impossible to keep when you're only 16, and your parents control your entire future, but…. What if you hurt her?

LOVE--so happy these are in audio book!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

OH YES. I own these in paperback and this author is great, but now to have them on the ACX app on my iPhone is going to be great. The narrators are amazing and how they read it--the boy reads all of the boy voices and the girl reads all of the girl voices sort of like they're acting it out, this is a great way to do audio books and I wish everyone would do it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of How I Fall?

Oh the kiss. The first kiss. Under the trees. The leaves. The way they fall in love. Of course, that's the best part of this story. I liked how they became friends first and how he'd had the crush on Ellen since middle school. I think that's really realistic because it does take a long time to talk to a crush.

What does Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I really think the voices are perfect. In my mind, Ellen really sounds likable and vulnerable but also strong. I love how Kai did her voice because if the narrators are off then you can't enjoy the book especially the girl narrator is so important to get right. Also the best friend--Laura London is from Ireland and OMG I was laughing out loud on her. I can't believe the girl narrator could just switch voices like that. Amazing good. Wen Ross, the guy narrator--let's just say. Swoon. Why don't all boys sound just like him. He does Cam Campbell so sexy and then Patrick the best friend is also just a different voice and wonderful. The narrators together and the first kiss? Oh, it's so great.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. Of course. I would listen to this all in one sitting if I wouldn't get in trouble for trying. That's why I'm happy it's on the iPhone so I can sneak listen to it whenever I want.

Any additional comments?

I love this author, I love this series as well as well as all of Anne Eliot's books. This audio narration team blew me away and I can't wait for more audio books.

Beautiful.

This was an amazing story! I love the research that the author very clearly put into it. I have a brother with cerebral palsy. This book helped me understand him better. The story was also amazing and adorable. I can't wait to hear the next. These narrators are amazing. I have listrned to many things by then. They definitely add an extra flair to all the books they narrate.

Heart Opening Story and Narrating

Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross provide their beautiful voices to a poignant story of hidden love in How I Fall, by Anne Eliot.

Listening to the, at times, heartbreak and then joy, gives an entirely new dimension to a book, and this pair allows an emotional level to bloom.

A story and reading that will stay with me!

Where does How I Fall rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have listened to many audio books from the library. This is my first on my iPhone and it was an easy top 5 of all, and I've heard a lot. Now that I have the audible app I will get more like this. The reading of the two narrators was right on for how teens sound, not contrived, much humor and the way the boy reader and the girl reader interacted was wonderful. This story had me laughing out loud, falling in love and even crying some as the story goes along.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the way the characters seem so real as well as the setting in Canada which is rare. You can really walk in Ellen Foster's shoes, as well as feel the pressures inside the hero's life. Loved how the title ties in to Ellen and Cam personally as well as how they fall in love. I don't have cerebral palsy or play high school football, and I'm not a photographer, but the way this is written and then read by the narrators had me feel like I was walking in all of those spaces. It is really a first love story, the first kiss is so sweet, the funny character of Laura London was my favorite side character and over all it's hard to pick a favorite thing. I can say I'm happy there is a second book because at the end, I only wanted more.

What does Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The readers were awesome. It's hard to believe that many voices of different ages even, high school to adult were read by both--as well as that Irish accent which maybe not exactly perfect, was so perfect because every time I had to just laugh and smile and grin at the interactions. The narrators laugh and sigh--and groan and they bring this to life so beautifully. Well well done, and I will look for these narrators again. Like I said above, this was a great combination of story and pure pleasure to listen to. I could not stop, so this was listened to back to back it's so engaging.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was really moved when poor Cam ended up in the situation he'd never wanted to be in--and how Ellen was so hurt--that was just wow... I remember being sixteen, and how my parents played such a role in what I could and could not do, the decisions I was making for my future--it's a real thing that happens at that age. While in high school you don't get to make all of the decisions for your life just yet, and it's a tough age and time to move through. This story really portrayed the reality of that so well. Of course the romance moved me---that first kiss, oh yes, the fear Ellen had to go through to even just trust a little. Wonderful and moving.

Any additional comments?

I highly recommend. Loved it.

Very sweet.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The author is not afraid to write about disability. She portrays Ellen as I would imagine someone with CP would express themselves. She goes there, the pity she feels from other people, having to struggle twice as hard to do things that abled people take for granted.

What was one of the most memorable moments of How I Fall?

Of course it was the first kiss. The author painted a beautiful picture. That and he ice trees.

Have you listened to any of Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is one of the best performances of Kai's. Her brogue was hilarious. She and Wen always do a great job bringing their characters to life.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

In the basement, when Cam's mother found them watching tv together and said all of those hateful things about Ellen, it was heart-wrenching. It's hard to believe that people could be so cruel.

Any additional comments?

I have to get the next book. Now. I need a happy ending.
