About this listen

Jessica Kenner knew her 11-year marriage was far from perfect. But through it all, she had always felt that she and her husband, Charley, were a team. Until the day she found out about Betty, Charley's mistress. That was the day she made Charley pay for every lie and every rotten, underhanded, abusive thing he had ever done to her. But even lying dead on the basement floor, Charley was still a thorn in her side. A bottle of vodka, a quality set of carving knives, and 24 hours later the only question left was... what to do with his head?

Matt Burlingame wrote a book that pulled me in from the very beginning. I loved how the story was original and had incredible imagery. The twists were so unexpected and well done. Without gloving away spoilers, the ending is priceless! Laura Wilson did a very good performance with this book. She added the right emotions to the characters. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I would listen to more books by this author and narrator.

But not for Charlie. He came to an unfortunate end.

Very enjoyable and quick - listened to this on a long drive and wished it lasted longer. Quirky and humorous, it delves into the recesses of what a person can do when faced with an overwhelming situation - a fork in the road that requires one to make a decision. Good or bad. Just be prepared for the fall out and how to do deal with it! :)

Kudos to the author, Matt Burlingame. This story is so well-written that I hated Charlie, the murdered husband, right away and absolutely applauded his demise. (Is that wrong?)

Jessica, the wife and murderess, was clueless but sweet and it was great to see her personal growth as she gained a sense of self apart from Charlie.

The title says it all so there are no real surprises in the story progression. The beauty of this relatively short listen is Jessica. The narrator was an excellent choice! A lot happens in Jessica's head, from second-guessing to realizations, and the narrator maintained a great cadence that kept Jessica believable.

Great listen!

Listener received this title free

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and any opinions expressed herein are my own.

From the title, it's clear what's going to happen in the story. And in order to enjoy this story, you have to have empathy for and really like Jessica. I was hooked on this book from the very beginning. Jessica's husband Charlie is abusive [physically and mentally], domineering and a crook. On top of these sterling qualities, he is also cheating on Jessica. And this one fact is what sets Jessica off. I loved her character growth from a mousy, timid woman to a confidant, beautiful, strong woman. I was rooting for her to succeed. Plus there was some good humor. I wasn't ready for this story to end but it had a great payoff.

The narrator, Laura Wilson, was fantastic. A lot of the story is relayed through Jessica's thoughts - and her talent in conveying these thoughts made me like Jessica even more.

Absolutely Charming

How An Abused Housewife Murdered Her Cheating Husband Met The Man of Her Dreams was a good read by Matt Burlingame. This book had a quirky comical side. Jessica has had a far from perfect marriage but always felt like a team with her husband. That is until she finds out about Charley's mistress, Betty. It gets her thinking of every abusive thing he's done. Next thing she knows Charley is dead on the basement floor and she tries to find a way of getting rid of his body. I really enjoyed this book and loved the author's writing that made you hate Charley and want him dead.

Good quick read
