About this listen

Want to write a dynamite novel?

The secret to writing a dynamite novel is to first write a dynamite scene. Because if you can write one terrific scene, you can write a hundred. And that's a novel.

This is a short book, with just one goal - to teach you the simple principles you can use right now to design a powerful scene before you write it. If you've already written your novel, you can use these same principles to make each scene better.

About the book

How to Write a Dynamite Scene Using the Snowflake Method will give you the power tools you need to write scenes that move your reader's emotions.

You'll learn:

  • The one thing your reader most desperately wants. And why.
  • How to decide which character should have the point of view.
  • The two kinds of scenes designed to give your reader a powerful emotional experience - and how to know which to use.
  • Five ways to test that your lead character's goal in each scene is perfect.
  • How to end every scene so it leaves your reader wanting more.
  • Why dilemmas are good, and how to know when they're ruining your story.
  • Four ways to know that your character's decision will drive your story forward.
  • How to know when a scene is broken - and how to fix it.

Amazing

Untangles the obvious, and delivers the information in a clear and usable way. Loved it!
As for the narration - accelerating the speed to 1.20 overcomes it...

Great book!

I'm a fan of Randy's book, The Snowflake Method, and this book was just as high caliber. Deep dive into what makes a scene powerful (or not). I kept having to pause it and take notes.

Excellent instruction

Scene by scene makes sense with this method instead of vague explanations I've sat through at expensive writing conferences.

I'm very excited to start implementing everything I've learned from this book right away. This book is the perfect guide for someone like me who always completes a beat sheet but struggles in writing the scenes for every story beat.

Most comprehensive scene construction guide!

This has helped me identify scenes that can be improved, and exactly what they need. The examples, while in very different genres from mine, got my imagination in gear. I can hardly wait to put this instruction into practice!

I was looking for a book to help me improve my scene-craft as a writer, and this book delivers with a simple, straightforward and no-nonsense system for creating scenes that work for your story, and for making sure the scenes you *do* have are pulling their weight. I found tips that I was immediately able to apply to my current writing project, and it's already making a tremendous difference. I'd recommend this short, easy-to-read book for any fiction writer.

So many great tips and examples. I will listen to this before I start writing next book and again when I start doing edits on draft 2. These tidbits can only make your writing stronger/better!

great refresher

I was just going to listen to a few minutes of this today, and I ended up listening to the entire book. I have written eighteen traditionally published novels (so far), and I found this book very helpful for honing my craft. There is nothing here that couldn't be easily understood and incorporated by a new writer, too. James L. Rubart's narration is engaging and fits the book perfectly. Highly recommended!
