About this listen

Hugo Duchamp, a Frenchman living and working as a policeman in London, is about to have his world turned upside down. Called upon to return to his native country where he has not been for over a decade, Hugo finds himself embroiled in the murder of a child and a town ripe with corruption. Warned not to investigate the first murder, he soon has no choice when a second child is murdered. The first in a new series of exciting adventures with a very modern and different hero.

Hugo Duchamp

I really enjoyed this book! Hugo is sent to his homeland to work. They don't want him there, but they need him. Will he stay?I guess I need to see if there are more of these books. Narration by Henry Douthwaite was well done.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Absolutely riveting!

law-enforcement, LGBT, family-dynamics, friendship, France, murder, murder-investigation, small-town, international-crime-and-mystery, triggers, procedural*****

The publisher's blurb is bland and minimal, but I understand their hesitance about giving it all away. The first quarter of the book is an in depth exploration of the characters, Hugo and all of the French participants (except the murder victims). As noted, the first horrific murder occurs before Hugo is sent as the best man to be both neutral and skilled. The second occurs shortly after he acclimates himself to the other characters and the way things are organized in France. In the course of things, he also learns something about himself that he had not really known (boy, does this add to his angst over everything!). This is a very interesting procedural involving local and state politics as well. Read it all in one day because it was THAT compelling!
Henry Douthwaite is the multilingual narrator who kept me from tearing my hair out over French pronunciations while doing a wonderful job with all the voices and really acting out the story and not just reading it. His voice brings the characters to life while his inflections entirely suit the situations and characters.

Loved it

Fabulous story and characters and Henry Douthwaite is an excellent narrator. I listen to audiobooks when driving and I really didn't want to get out of the car. I want the 2nd book in the series now!

One absurd cliche after another, OCD's, sex obsessed young gays, French foods....sad proof anybody can get published, no talent required. .
