About this listen

Two years removed from the events of Cash City, PI Nick Malick’s life is oddly...normal. Routine, even. He has a solid relationship with his girlfriend and her son, and a steady stream of investigative work from a prestigious law firm in town.

Cain City’s fortunes also seem to be turning for the better. After a crippling wave of crime and decades of economic deterioration, a large-scale movement to revitalize the city is underway. For the first time in a long time, there’s cause for optimism. That is, until Malick’s latest investigation finds him tugging the threads on a criminal conspiracy that touches all rungs of Cain City society, from the squalid street corners to the prosperous upper crust.

As the body count rises, the case becomes personal for Malick. It takes him to the brink of his physical and emotional limits and forces him to confront the sins of his past. It places the lives of the people he loves most in jeopardy, and it threatens to put the death nail, once and for all, in Cain City.

And in him.

Fliakos made the story more powerful than it was

After 3 years and about 150 books this is the first time I can say without any doubt, with complete confidence that I believed Ari Fliakos was actually every single character! Can you say that about any other performer in a book with more than 10 distinct male and female personalities? If I didn’t know better he has MPD, I honestly bought in to each characters nuanced and complex personas. Remember this is a man standing in a recording room reading lines. Well, maybe it is actually a movie in your head. I cried! And I never cry!
The story was ok but the depth of characters, the authors writing style and this performance makes it a more than worthy follow up. Enjoy Ari’s performance and get ready for a 13 hour stay in Cain City with Nick Malick.

Classic Detective Story

I absolutely loved this book. It is written very well and the narrator is excellent. I first read Cash City and then looked for more written by Jonathan Fredrick. Hum Little Birdie picked up where Cash City left off. It is a real whodunit and has many interesting side stories with great detail that connects everything together. I definitely recommend this book to those who like thriller mysteries.

Slow on take off but good

Some parts seem to drag on but just when I tired of it he brought me back in. Good listen.

Book 2 in Series is Great

I don't do many reviews but this audiobook is a product of our times. It is full of injustice, crime, murder and hope. The narration is supurb and characters are real. Start with Cash City then listen to this one. It's not a romance or fairy tale. But once you start the books you won't be able to stop listening.

Literary GENIUS!

Cash City ~ An absolute must listen!
BEST audiobook I've ever heard! Ari Fliakos 2017 Audible Narrator of the Year perfectly sets the tone and keeps you drawn in. Jam-packed with action, suspense, emotion and corruption; if you like crime fiction this books for you! This story is dark, smart and quick-witted. The author writes with finesse and his descriptive words make you feel like you're alongside Malick throughout. Fredrick's attention to detail and expressive writing vividly bring this thriller to life! Looking forward to additional work by both Jonathan Fredrick and Ari Fliakos. Bravo!

Hum Little Birdie ~ Literary Genius!
Splurge for this one! Fredrick does not disappoint as he descriptively takes you through the sequel to Cash City; where it all begins. The quality of Fredrick’s work is undeniable; an absolute mastermind! The way the author develops the story is smart, thoughtful and creative. Ari Fliakos joins Fredrick once again and the dynamic duo knock it out of the park! Fliakos’ commitment to each character remains engaging throughout. As the authors explicative words leave Fliakos’ tongue you are quickly pulled into a dark world. A word of corruption and deceit. Loaded with suspense, action and wonder, you’ll be left wanting more! This story is incredibly thought out and takes you on a thrilling journey! It delivers on all the emotions. You’ll enjoy moments of laughter, worry, interest, suspense and jealously. Malick’s combination of arrogance and fearlessness make his bold character exciting to be alongside! It’s not imperative that you listen to CASH CITY first, but I would highly recommend it! You’ll be instantly hooked and invested into key characters that roll over into HUM LITTLE BIRDIE. Looking forward to further collaborations between Fredrick and Fliakos. Encore!

A Great Book!

I read a lot. Always have. It’s the great gift my parents gave me. One genre I’ve gobbled up since I was a kid has been detective fiction, starting with The Hardy Boys and graduating to the great works of Hammett, Chandler, Cain, Simenon, Macdonald, McBain and others. Last night I finished Jonathan Fredrick’s “HUM LITTLE BIRDIE,” the second in his Cain City series featuring hard-boiled (on the outside) P.I. Nick Malick. And with it, author Fredrick knocks on the pantheonic door of the above-named greats. Taught, exciting and and wryly funny, “HUM LITTLE BIRDIE” plays by the rules of the genre...and then expands them. This is a great book by an author to experience both now and in the future.
