About this listen

The series takes place in a world similar to our own but one where vampires, witches, werewolves and shape-shifters live among humans without their knowledge. These supernatural races make up a secret society known as the Night World, which enforces two fundamental laws to prevent discovery: 1) Never allow humans to gain knowledge of the Night World's existence and, 2) Never fall in love with one of them.

Jez Redfern is unique. She's a vampire hunter who's half vampire. Raised in the Redfern family, the girl with fiery hair and silvery-blue eyes was the undisputed leader of a gang of vampire raiders. Then came the discovery that shattered her life - her mother was a human. Now, Jez hunts her former friends, protecting humans from the Night World.

But when Circle Daybreak sends her on a search for one of the legendary Wild Powers, Jez has to rejoin her old gang. They want her back -- especially Morgead, the gorgeous green-eyed vampire who used to be her second-in-command. Jez wants to stay faithful to Hugh Davis, the human she loves. But Morgead swears he's her soulmate and he'll do anything to lure her back to the old ways. With danger and temptation around, Jez finds herself irresistibly drawn to him. And she's afraid that if she tastes blood again, she'll become the evil huntress she once was.

Passionate Reading

The characters come to life, even if it’s a woman reading both the male and female characters

Better than I remembered.

I was a huge fan of the Night World series when I was a kid. At that time, Huntress wasn't my favorite. I think it's because it's a more mature book than the earlier stories. Morgead is very real compared to some of the other heroes. Jez seems like an adult forced to live in a teen's world. For these reasons, Huntress has become one of my favorites. Also, Dawe's portrayal of the characters is entertaining.

"Tell Hugh your freaking self! He's right over there!"

Classic.

A true vampire love story!

What did you love best about Night World: Huntress?

I love underdog to hero love stories. This is one of the best and now one of my favorite Night World books.

What did you like best about this story?

The love and attraction is evident from the beginning of this book. Morgade is strong but very vulnerable to Jez, who is so wrapped up in her own self discovery that she fails to see that what she is looking for has been right in front of her for her entire life.

Have you listened to any of Angela Dawe’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I love Angela Dawe's performances. Even if you are not a fan of the author, she will perform so well that you will end up loving the book she has just poured her heart into performing for you. She is truly one of my favorite performers.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Love will always find a way.

Any additional comments?

I learned that the last book of the Night World Series "Strange Fate" has been lost. LJ smith has written it but for some reason or another it has not been published. To my understanding this has been the case for close to 10 years. I am sad to say that at this point, you will be enjoying the Night World stories and characters without the ultimate closure a reader, a customer or a fan would expect.

My favorite Book

I haven't read this in a few years and I've only read the one but i honestly sounds like it could be the first book in the series. This was my first audio book and is the book I suggest to all of my friends when their looking for fantasy but not something popular. The narrators tones for the males like Morgade arent very well done but still one of my favorites.

"Saving Chipmunks From Toxic Waste"

What made the experience of listening to Night World: Huntress the most enjoyable?

This is not my genre, but I purchased due to reviewer's saying Ms Dawe was fab reading it.
Morgade, was yum and so was the old one in his sweet Chipmunk saving ways.

Would you be willing to try another book from L. J. Smith? Why or why not?

This author/genre is not for me, but if Ms Dawe reads any more of this series, then yes.

Have you listened to any of Angela Dawe’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I too am a huge fan of Ms Dawe, and purchased this book just to hear her read it. This is one of her more animated reads and it is just great. Her male and childrens voices are her best. Her Scot's brogue is not to be missed, see Nora Roberts MacGregor series. If you are a Sci Fi fan, Ms Dawe does heaps of them.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes as it was a complete short story that was well written and edited . If you are a sci fi fan, then don't miss this one in the series.

Any additional comments?

note: I use the new 1.25x speed to match the author intent.

Excellent voice to an excellent story

Huntress is one of my favorite stories in the Night World series, but Angela's narration of this was absolutely on point. She sounded EXACTLY like how Jezabelle does in my head. I couldn't believe it. Excellent performance. I'd read this book a long time ago off on my own, and recently got it again for a listen. I was blown away. Highly recommend.
