A love story played in a game of Jumanji

The story, while fairly easy to foretell, was surprisingly compelling. I went in with the thought that it was going to be a fluff book, especially with the way the characters are presented, but the author developed them well and presented them with interesting challenges. I was actually wishing the book was longer near the end.

Pleasantly Surprised

Great book and I loved the story, but could have had a better narrator. The background music was also a nice touch.

worth the listen

Any additional comments?

I don't like to read something unless it sucks you into it. This book and the ones to follow it do just that. It is a good story, and something different from all the vampire stuff. Very good book, I am on the thrid one now and hope another comes out soon.

Great book for teens and adults....

What made the experience of listening to The Hunter the most enjoyable?

This book is thoroughly enjoyable, i absolutely love books like this. What would you do if you were trapped and your only way out of your nightmare is to go through your nightmares. Well Jenny finds out when she unknowingly gets drawn into a game of fears and twists to face off against the dreaded Shadow man. When backed into a corner in fear for your life the only way out is to delve deeper into the mysterious white-boxed game of nightmares.

very enjoyable

I adored the book when I read it as a teenager, even making it the first book I bought with my own money. It has a romance with (in my opinion) one of the hottest fictional men I've encountered, though I've recently found the female protagonist is a touch guilty of being a "Mary Sue."
L.J. Smith manages to give you a creeping feeling with small tells and creates an original setting with tragically overlooked mythological lore.
The narrator did a great job on the characters voices (even on the men)... but unfortunately, she gave the main character a "beyotch voice," and that kind of tainted the experience of the series for me.

Just one little thing...

One of my besties and I have loved this story from childhood. I read my copies until they fell apart. It was such a nice nostalg and the way the narrator plays Julian is gorgeous.

I loved this book when I came across a hard copy in HS circa 2007ish. so much so that when I went to visit my family in CA.. I made sure I grabbed it out of my old room. Ended up lost but I found ot on Audible and have been so happy. I love the story and i actually liked the narrator.

Love it

As a true fan of this book since I was kid, and a true fan of L.J. Smith and all her writings, this book of the 3 part series is excellent! Had to give a 3 on performance though because I wasn't very happy with HOW it was read in many parts. There are just certain scenarios where a "valley-girl" type attitude from some of the characters didn't seem appropriate, and some times the reader made the characters sound like they were little kids instead of older teenagers.
All in all though, it was very well done.
Thanks
