Publisher's summary

Tiffany Haddish is back with her highly anticipated new essay collection, I Curse You With Joy.

It’s been a minute since listeners last sat down with Tiffany Haddish. Since The Last Black Unicorn, Haddish has catapulted to A-List fame as the breakout star of Girls Trip. She’s walked the Oscars red carpet, released a hit stand-up special with Netflix, and made history as the first black female comedian to host Saturday Night Live and Shark Week.

But it hasn’t been all VIP parties and free diving with apex predators. In these humorous and heartfelt essays, Tiffany gets real about the highs and lows of life. Believe it or not, there was a time when Tiffany didn’t totally know who Tiffany was. Before she found her groove, she was on stage dressed like her snobby airline coworkers telling halfhearted dick jokes. She tanked.

It took a fake penis, some help from friends, and a little encouragement from Bob Saget, but eventually Tiffany figured out Tiffany. I Curse You With Joy celebrates all the lessons she learned along the way—the joy and the pain. Tiffany reckons with the legacy of her childhood trauma, the challenges of being a black woman in the entertainment industry, and her bittersweet reunion with her estranged father after nearly twenty years apart. And don’t worry, she’s got plenty of advice to share, too.

I Curse You With Joy is Tiffany Haddish unfiltered. (We know what you’re thinking... how much more unfiltered can she get?) These essays lay it all bare, bringing listeners into Tiffany’s inner circle where joy, honesty, humor, and heart are the order of the day.

Proof that from adversity, Gods truest purpose and love is revealed.

I loved listening to how hard work and dedication can be realized with a good attitude and heart for Gods people. Thank you for sharing your story and continuing to bring a lightness to the world brought through by comedy and love. You’re amazing. I’d love to go for a walk and chat with Tiffany in her beautiful garden and learn more about her abundant knowledge and wisdom through life experience. Teaches ladies- do not quit. Keep going. You’re worth it. You’re enough. Inspirational for me as I live out my own purpose given to me by God! Thank you!

Enlightening...Raw...Powerful... while still being funny

Another great book by Tiffany Haddish. She blends the rawness of her life into humorous stories that you can't help but root for her. If only more comedians, and other celebrities were this open and honest about their upbringing. I'm hopeful that many women, and men too, find strength to overcome the less than ideal circumstances in their childhood and become powerful adults by listening to Tiffany's book and seeing what a positive example she is.

She's Just Like Us

Very inspiring, moving, and relevant. Haddish proves once again that she is just like us, a spirit having a human experience. She laughs, cries, gets embarrassed, angry, and joyful. Better yet, she shows her humanity by using her blessings to be a blessing to others. Be blessed by reading this book.

Good read. Kept me engaged throughout the entire book.

Good book. Tiffiney reads the book in her voice. Easy to follow, it’s true to the author, she tells her story through her eyes.

Over the Top and Proud of it

Her honesty about her life - it takes guts to be brutally open like she was. It was hard to handle at times, but I made sure I finished the book. I have a mix of brown and black in my family. When my grandson was due, my daughter told me who the dad was. I knew the life he led, and he would break my daughter’s heart. But my children had been brought up to love all people of color, and I told her every baby was a gift.
I helped raise my grandson, and I kept him close because I had seen and grown up with a mother close to the way described in the book. It made me stronger, and I always loved people of color even though i was beaten for playing with them and socializing with them. I especially love my grandson and now his wife and their two children (my great grandchildren). Plus the nine other grandchildren regardless of race.
In fact, you never know love until you have a child. And me being the only child in my family, I am very happy to have the big family I have now and all the love.
