About this listen

I Have Sinned has been nominated for the 2019 Kindle Storyteller Award.

Bunny McGarry has finally got a lead in his mission to find the Sisters of the Saint, but the lead, one Father Gabriel de Marcos, isn’t willing to play ball. Desperate times call for desperate measures and Bunny has to put the padre under surveillance with a little help from some old friends. Father Gabriel runs a boxing club at the bad end of the Bronx, battling to keep kids out of gangs - noble, thankless work. Thing is, saints don’t typically have assassins sent after them. What sins are hidden in the padre’s mysterious past?

The Sisters of the Saint are many things but pushovers they ain’t. To regain their trust, Bunny must save the priest from the demons that are on his tail. Keeping the cantankerous priest alive would be difficult for anyone, never mind that Bunny has to resist the urge to kill him himself. He has to manage all this while living under the rules that chill him to the very bone. No drinking. No swearing. No violence.

I Have Sinned is book two in the McGarry Stateside series, a continuation of the smash hit Dublin Trilogy which also featured Bunny McGarry. It melds high-octane action with a distinctly Irish acerbic wit.

So entertaining!!!!!!

Okay, Bunny may be an acquired taste, but it seems I’ve acquired it. Sure, the villains are sort of comic book-ey and I wouldn’t look for gritty realism here, but I haven’t found a better cure for the state of the world’s woes than this smartass, flatulent Irish detective and the great characters that come with him. BTW there’s a great part for Peter Dinklage in the stateside series. Enjoyed every second. More please!!!

Extraordinary narrator

The author is fantastic. So cheeky, so clever, so creative. I’m literally inhaling your audiobooks one after the other.

And this narrator is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Extraordinary accents, fantastic scene setting, amazingly captivating. Bravo!

How do these keep getting better?!?

Caimh McDonnell’s characters and story given voice by the crazy-gifted Morgan C Jones… yet another, even better, romp with Bunny!

Wonderful!

This might be the best one yet, although they’re all so good, it’s hard to make that distinction. Morgan C. Jones does his usual excellent job of voicing the wonderfully engaging characters. I found myself completely drawn into the story and eager to get back to it, and also laughing out loud frequently. Can’t wait for the next book in the series!

Good Book Brilliant Narrator

Although Caimh's books are inherently comedic, he often touches on deep tragedies. His social commentary open up worlds of inequity while making us laugh out loud. While it is probably politically incorrect to do so, it brings us closer to the devastation. The grim world he describes is real. My mother was an inner-city teacher decades ago, and not much has changed , unfortunately.

Yet another great book in the series, with perfect narration

The Dublin trilogy and the State-side books are one of my best discoveries on Audible. Funny, touching, in addition to being just great thrillers. The narration is more than perfect, and takes the books to an even higher level. A must-hear. (Just make sure you get the Dublin books first, and in the right - somewhat confusing - order)

Side trip into gang life.

This installment of the Bunny in America series is good and interesting but not my favorite. It takes you one step forward toward Bunny’s search for Simone via a long trip into blighted urban gangs, an international assassin’s ring and a priest who is trying to save kids. As an American reading this, it’s a truly depressing impression of our country but I guess some of the narrative of Ireland’s underworld in other books wasn’t much better. Anyway, heading towards Simone one step at a time. Onward ho.

Mostly entertaining

After reading the Dublin Trilogy, the prequels, I looked forward to more Bunny. So now I’ve finished two of the Stateside series and they are well-written, well-performed and mostly entertaining.

My one wish is that Caimh consider losing the abhorrent mention of human-animal sex and other references which really limit his otherwise mainstream comic mysteries. In the first Stateside we accepted a dominitrix which, unfortunately was an integral part of the story. But, really, is there a point to assaulting us with a mix of protecting children, people of faith and disturbed sexual behavior?

We would love to see the books cleaned up and becoming a series we can recommend to all our adult friends. Thanks for listening.
