About this listen

Read by the author.

New York Times bestselling author Lysa TerKeurst shows you what to do with your skepticism and distrust so you can heal from past betrayals and move forward with strength and resilience.

Trust is the oxygen of all human relationships. But it's also what trips you up after you've been burned. Maybe a friend constantly lets you down. A leader or organization you respect turns out to be different than they portray themselves to be. A spouse cheats on you. A family member betrays you. You're exhausted by other people's choices and starting to question your own discernment. And you're wondering, If God let this happen, can he even be trusted?

How can you live well and step into the future when you keep stumbling over trust issues? Lysa TerKeurst says it's not simply about finding better people to walk with. It's about developing the stability you long for within yourself and with God, so you don't become cynical and carry a broken belief system into every new relationship. In I Want to Trust You, But I Don't, Lysa shows you how to

  • identify which of the eleven relational red flags are stirring up distrust, so you can pinpoint why you're feeling uneasy;
  • stop having more faith in your fears coming true than God coming through for you by asking crucial "what if" questions to better process your doubts;
  • recognize when a fractured relationship can be repaired by considering a reasonable list of characteristics necessary for rebuilding trust; and
  • understand the physical, emotional, and neurological impact of the betrayals you've experienced and start healing from the inside out.

In a world where so many things feel alarming, this book will give you a peace that isn't dependent on unpredictable people, circumstances, and experiences. Instead, it offers practical and biblical ways to make real progress toward healthier perspectives, relationships, and a future you can authentically look forward to.

I don't trust you and I shouldn't

I loved it. she speaks with a lot of wisdom and there's a maturity that you don't see often enough with so much experience and being in the ministry, myself, you learn there is people that you don't let have access to you, and it's not because you don't love them. there's a recklessness thats being removed slowly from ministry, people learning and exercising boundaries that i love. promoting healthy christianity. this is that book

The emotionally relatable

I love how emotionally open this is and I felt like Lysa was speaking directly to me. The words are consoling and inspiring. I listen in two days and I will be doing it again. There is so much to learn from this book.

From a non-religious perspective…

Okay… I really didn’t know this author was such a devoted Christian before I started this book. I personally don’t find myself to be too religious. However, I guess you could call me spiritual. Anyway! I think this book was very well written and read. Furthermore, it contained a lot of valuable lessons that I think even the non-religious people could truly benefit from.
I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 because for me, personally, there was a little too much “Jesus talk”. All in all, I was able to get through all of it and actually enjoy most of it. Yet, at times it felt a little too religious for me.

Tip for other non-religious folks: whenever the author talked about Jesus and God, I would think of them as “the universe”. It made more sense to me that way and made the book easier to get through at times.

Her transparency and talking about things that we go through that we would rather forget.

I really loved this book. When you go through betrayal as a Christian there aren’t many books to help you through it. She explained many things that I felt and experienced. I highly recommend this for women who are afraid or embarrassed by being betrayed.

Love the brutal honesty of this book!

I have lived this story and I didn’t want to. It’s been harder than I ever thought possible, but I’m here and very thankful for you putting into words the thoughts in my head. I will definitely listen again too much good stuff to get the first time through.

Words of wisdom for my soul.

This was everything I didn't know I needed to hear. I am not alone in my trust issues, and God has a good plan for healing.
