About this listen

“Vintage Iacocca... He is fast-talking, blunt, boastful, and unabashedly patriotic. Lee Iacocca is also a genuine folk hero.... His career is breathtaking.” (Business Week)

He's an American legend, a straight-shooting businessman who brought Chrysler back from the brink and in the process became a media celebrity, newsmaker, and a man many had urged to run for president.

The son of Italian immigrants, Lee Iacocca rose spectacularly through the ranks of Ford Motor Company to become its president, only to be toppled eight years later in a power play that should have shattered him. But Lee Iacocca didn't get mad, he got even. He led a battle for Chrysler's survival that made his name a symbol of integrity, know-how, and guts for millions of Americans.

In his classic hard-hitting style, he tells us how he changed the automobile industry in the 1960s by creating the phenomenal Mustang. He goes behind the scenes for a look at Henry Ford's reign of intimidation and manipulation. He recounts the miraculous rebirth of Chrysler from near bankruptcy to repayment of its $1.2 billion government loan so early that Washington didn't know how to cash the check.

I’m sure this is an abbreviated autobiography. Now I want to read more. Listening to this man, I can feel his genuine goodness and integrity. It’s no wonder he succeeded in whatever he did. He wasn’t trying to fool anyone so all his energy went into succeeding and not covering his tracks. Too bad we don’t have leaders like this anymore. He made me proud to be of Italian descent because I identified with much of what he said about his parents.

Fascinating Man

The guy impresses me even now. Current leaders should listen to what he has said and written.

I had forgotten so much and knew so little.

Good and quick summary of Iacocca's life. I liked it as introduction before considering one of his larger volumes

Didn’t realize how short this was - but it was like a breath of fresh air for business y’all. Basically an interview and ad for the actual book. I’m gonna check out his other stuff.

Short & sweet

This seems to be a small portion of what you would expect. Great as a podcast, not for an audiobook. Partly inspired, partly disappointed in its overall length.

Really good listen. Not sure why people aren't giving it five stars since its contents are informative; insightful, and concise! It whets your appetite to do his full biography, I mean you've only invested about an hour of your time. Come people, let's be reasonable...

Awesome!
