Publisher's summary

From the author of Call the Canaries Home comes the heartwarming tale of two generations of women struggling to find their way…until the voice of Patsy Cline shines a light.

When her nineteen-year marriage ends, stay-at-home mom Effie Baker takes the first step into her new life with an extreme makeover. She assumes she’ll wake up with a renewed sense of confidence, not a vision of country music icon Patsy Cline telling her she needs to “set things right.” But like everything else lately, the last thing Effie expected is exactly what she gets.

Although the message is cryptic, Effie is certain it must have something to do with her grandmother, Lolly, who idolized the singer. While Lolly’s past may hold the key to her granddaughter’s future, it’s up to Effie to figure out what these connections mean on her own.

In the whirlwind of a new job, a mysterious stranger, and the ups and downs of everyday life, Effie will have to decide what relationships are worth saving and summon the courage to find her own voice.

Critic reviews

“[F]un and spunky, and [the] story will fit well in a relationship-fiction section.”Booklist

“Laura Barrow has written a funny, poignant, and highly entertaining novel about one woman’s quest to create a new life after being dumped by the husband she’s still in love with. Buckle up for a fun ride, complete with cosmetic surgery, a lovable but restless ghost, country music, and plenty of wisdom about what makes for a good life. I loved it!”—Maddie Dawson, bestselling author of Matchmaking for Beginners and Let’s Pretend This Will Work

If We Ever Get There is a compelling and unexpected story about a woman doing her best to not fall to pieces—with a little help from Patsy Cline. Laura Barrow’s latest is a reminder that life’s sudden detours are often exactly what we need to become stronger, better versions of ourselves.”—Camille Pagán, bestselling author of Good for You

Loved it

I couldn’t put this audiobook down, so to speak, and finished it in one day. I absolutely loved it the story, the ending, and the narration. 5 stars!

A mom/Wife had to learn to stand on her own

Even though lessons were learned, it was sort of a boring story. Not sure what else to say!
