Publisher's summary

When you wish upon an earl....

Harriet Hathaway has only ever wanted one man: The Earl of Roxley. After a passionate interlude at a house party, Harriet is convinced Roxley will do the right thing and propose. But when she returns to London, she finds the roguish earl on the verge of proposing to another.

Yet Harriet refuses to believe that her hopes of a happily-ever-after are completely lost - for she can see the desire still flickering in the earl's eyes when he looks at her from across the dance floor. And when they are alone...there is one wish neither can deny.

...the most extraordinary things can happen

The Earl of Roxley is in a dangerous fix - and to keep Harriet safe, he must hold her at arm's length. He won't entangle her in the murderous mystery that is threatening to destroy his family and his future. But keeping Harriet Hathaway out of his troubles proves as impossible as it is to keep the determined beauty from stealing his heart.

What a really fun story and series.

I am really enjoying this whole series! This story was very good. The Hero and Heroine are both strong, funny, witty and smart. The heroine, Harriet is pretty funny she can plant a facer and pick a lock! I really enjoyed her character. The hero, Roxley is handsome and sexy. The two had some great chemistry between them and there was a couple of very nicely written sex scenes. Nothing forced between these two.

The story line and plot were great. There was mystery, murder and romance. Lots of very good dialogue throughout the entire book! (I like lots of dialogue). The whole story flowed quite nicely.

I have already started the 4th book in the series The Viscount Who Lived Down the Lane and it's wonderful so far!

I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series.

As for the narrator, it's Susan Duerden, so if you get past the sing song reading voice she is fine, The men sound like men and the women sound like women, and she does, for the most part, give everyone their own distinct voice. She is not my favorite but not my least favorite.

What a Great Ride!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, definitely! This book was so much fun and really engaging. I'd almost say I liked the mystery plot even better than the romance in this book, though the romance was amazing too!

What other book might you compare If Wishes Were Earls to and why?

Lessons in French by Laura Kinsale. That was another book with some really well written adventure and intrigue along with very moving romance. These books really took me on such a fun ride!

What about Susan Duerden’s performance did you like?

I always love Susan Duerden, she's one of my favorite narrators. She was fabulous as always.

Any additional comments?

Definitely worth the credit!

Really enjoyed

If you could sum up If Wishes Were Earls in three words, what would they be?

sexy, can't think of two others. The love scenes are really good. It took awhile to get into the book but I enjoyed it as it went on.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Harriet, her determination and perseverance

What about Susan Duerden’s performance did you like?

sounded more adult not childlike on some other books she narrated that I listened too. I do think she needs to vary the ranges more though. She seems to stick to a certain voice for men and one for women and I would like to see more variation for that.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

All the love scenes but especially when they make love on a desk and the heroine gets an ink well stuck in her back.

Any additional comments?

Get this one, i am very fussy about my audiobooks and will not hesitate to return it if I do not like it but I like this book.

I enjoyed it so much I purchased the second book off amazon.com in the ebook and I bought the first book in the series.

I think audible.com needs to get more of Elizabeth Boyle's book, she has about 10 out there that are really good at least and I would like to see them available here at audible.com

Great Story and Narration

I highly recommend reading the first two books of the series before listening to this one, the buildup for the characters is worth it. This is my favorite book from this series. I love the twist and turns of the story. Both the H&H are strong characters that you just have to adore.

Fun fun fun

If Wishes were Earls was very fun. I loved all the characters, except the bad guys. There is suspense in this story as well as true love. My only complaint is that as the suspense story wrapped up, I had trouble remembering who a few of the characters were. It might have been just me though. My only other complaint is that I find whispering irritating. Elizabeth Boyle has quite a bit of whispering in her books. But, that is just a quirk of mine. I loved the book and Susan Duerden is always a great narrator!

Bad luck and trouble for Lord Roxley

Harriet loves Lord Roxley - and he knows it. He loves her too, but she does not know it. Lord Roxley has lost his good luck and is in big trouble financially. He is about to lose everything he has, including his homes in which his aunts reside. Roxley loves his aunts and he takes care of them. He will be unable to do so when he loses everything. Roxley doesn't at first realize that his bad times and financial difficulties are caused by acts of betrayal and sabotage by someone who hates him. The treachery is forcing Roxley to marry the daughter of a rich commoner in order to survive financially. This is devastating to both Lord Roxley and Harriet.

There is much commotion and activity with Harriet in the thick of it. The aunts also play a big role. I love the aunts. They are fantastic characters. The main reason I did not rate this book highly is because I do NOT like plots where the protagonist has lost his fortune and is going under. For some reason I find that very upsetting, and in most cases unjust and unfair. That situation just plain annoys me. I made it through the book to find out if Roxley turned things around.

The narration was very good.

DIsappointing

I have to write this before I forget this book. (It is rather forgettable.) It wasn't my favorite. It was simply okay with some holes in the story. Without getting into spoilers let me just say that I question why things didn't happen in the past that got our protagonists to the situation they're in. And there were too many clues for the hiding place. That being said, for an easy listen it's okay.

the writing is pretty awful but the plot is cute

I am quite conflicted about this. The narration is so good, and the characters are likeable, and the plot is cute, but dear lord the writing is terrible. About half of this book could have been edited out. With much better editing (or any editing) the writing might be decent.
