Publisher's summary

“One of the finest romance authors of all time.” (Julia Quinn)

“[Loretta Chase has] a rare talent for creating crackling sexual tension and characters so fresh and compelling that readers won’t be able to forget them.” (Susan Elizabeth Phillips)

One of the most beloved authors in the field of historical romance, the remarkable Loretta Chase proves that Silk Is for Seduction. The acclaimed New York Times best-selling author brings listeners the first in a very sexy, emotionally rich new series in which sisters from a rather scandalous aristocratic family - the purveyors of the most fashionable shop in Regency London - discover passion and love as sumptuous as the exquisite gowns they create. Stephanie Laurens fans will adore this sensuous love story, as ambitious dressmaker Marcelline attempts to win the patronage of a future duchess...and ends up inadvertently enchanting the Duke!

Cute Story

I read the last book in the series first not realizing it. So once I started listening I recognized character names so I was spoiled. However, that didn’t stop me from loving this book. I enjoyed the banter between Marcelline and Clevedon. They always kept the other on their toes. The angst, the longing and the heat was top notch. I would definitely read again and recommend.

Wonderful start to a new series

Loved the lead characters in this book. Both are strong, independent and attractive. L Chase has a great talent at developing strong characters who can get along.

Love it

I love the dreadful DeLucys. The book was entertaining and charming. And Kate Reading was at her usual best.

Very Good

The couple in this book is a version of Chase's tortured female artist and adoring beautiful man that we see in Captives of the Night and Lord Perfect. On first read I didnt like it too much but on second it grew on me once I got past this type of heroine's annoying negativity. Cleland is wonderful, although I wish we had had more back story to him.

Overall it is excellent, as is the entire Dressmaker series. Chase was in fine form in this series, culminating in the EXQUISITE Dukes Prefer Blondes. Nice plot, wonderful little girl, sizzling tension, and very touching love.

Kate Reading is superb in this series. They were both at the top of their game and I've reread many times.

Shockingly unique and delightful!

This took me by surprise! I loved the banter and rather adored both MMC and FMC from the start. It was witty and fun and action packed! The story line was new and refreshing. I love addition of fashion elements that really bring the scenes to life! I can’t wait for the next in the series and am going to be adding this to my favorites list!

Pefect Loretta Chase novel!

LC delivers classic LC romance and it's a gem! Loretta Chase excels at clever plots, complex and interesting characters and sparkling dialogue set in historically accurate (or, as accurate as any period romance can be and still be "romantic") locales and situations.

'Silk is For Seduction' hits all those notes perfectly and it's wildly engaging and entertaining. I found the first half hour or so a bit confusing what with all the French names and places and the introduction of a lot of characters, but - hang in there - it grabbed me and ran fairly quickly.

Marcelline Noirot is a modiste who, with her two sisters, owns and operates a dressmakers' shop and they have grand ambitions and copious talent. They discover the impending betrothal of Gervaise Angier, the seventh Duke of Clevedon to the woman he's been promised to since they were children (Clara.) Marcelline and her sisters recognize that they have an opportunity to "hit the big time" among the ton if they can snare the custom of Clara, the soon-to-be-Duchess of Clevedon. However, their plan is a bit unusual in that, instead of pursuing Clara directly, Marcelline travels to France to meet the Duke and convince him to bring Clara to her shop to be "dressed" by "the best modiste in the world."

The subsequent adventures of Marcelline and Clevedon, and their growing attraction to one another sparkle with clever plot twists and the sharp dialogue that is a Chase trademark. Meanwhile we learn about fashion and the trials of being in the trades and the fun and fanciful life of Dukes and their ducal privileges. In addition, we meet some wonderful characters that add depth to the plot, especially Marcelline's sisters, Clara the betrothed, and Marcelline's daughter Lucy.

Marcelline and her sisters are commoners and thus she is "ineligible" for the Duke, But this is not a Cinderella story. Marcelline is smart and resilient and driven and strong willed and she confounds the Duke constantly, punching holes in his stuffiness and his ducal angst. The Duke, of course, is handsome and strong and smart and big and brave, but he's also bored and arrogant and entitled and can match wits well with the brilliant Marcelline.

Kate Reading creates wonderful voices for each character and her narration is, as always, nearly pitch perfect.

The chemistry between the H & H that Chase creates is sweet and hot and witty, and even though you know there will be an HEA, the journey is SO much fun!

Fantastic romance!

I read a LOT of historical romances and this is one of the best I’ve listened to. Great narrator and unique story line with great character development. It had me in tears towards the end and I never cry. Can’t wait for the next one!

Something new!

This is a great story, a little slow at the beginning but worth staying with it. A different take on a romance. Enjoy!
