About this listen

My name is Norah Canivan, and for 50 years I’ve kept a secret.

It is a secret about the girl I discovered hiding on our sorry patch of land - the girl in the tattered green dress who was running from something - and someone.

The Girl in Green brought something different into my young life. And something darker. And when she died, nothing was ever the same after.

For 50 years, only I’ve known what really happened to The Girl in Green.

And now, these many years later, my secret may kill me.

Wow, what an ending

Mr. Fischl is a really good writer of dark fiction and the characterizations are wonderful. I felt the book dragged a bit in places for an audio book, but the story sets up your expectations and then is full of twists and turns at the finish. A good read.

Good enough to hang in to the end, no much more.

I had to speed it up 1.30 X because the reading was so slow. I don't recommend this book.

Sucked me In & Held Me Captive

The strong, folksy-yet-quick-witted main character drew me in and then the story she unraveled kept me hooked. Norah is nobody's fool, but she let slide just the right number of subtle hints at something dark and possibly supernatural to keep me curious - and, I admit, a little spooked. I love it when an author's twists truly surprise me and this one sure did. In fact, I found myself a little miffed.

I have read Fischl's other novels and he did not disappoint this time with his ability to bring a reader/listener into the time and place of the characters in his stories. I fell behind on my other listening, because I couldn't let this rest.

Terry Donnelly really brought Norah to life for me.

Intriguing Story Astounding Performance

Meet Nora, an crusty old woman, living on her farm, carrying a secret from her girlhood, fifty years ago. Old Nora reminisces about the time a strange young woman comes into her life.

Old Nora often addresses the reader and makes self- deprecating jokes about her great brilliance. She is grumpy and plain speaking and the reader comes to love her as we hear from the old woman and her young self.

I listened to the whole story in a day! Could not put it down.

Strange

Not exactly my type of story. I found about half way through it turned weird. But I’m a realistic person and this book is not. In spite of this, it held my interest. So... You might like it.

loved this! fun and macabre. Narrator is amazing!

I will definitely read this author more. The story was a winding mysterious path that I was sad and delighted to reach the end of.

Good but...

Great performance. Good book but a little long winded. I felt like fast forwarding a few times.

Great story until the end weakened it.

The performance was exceptionally good. The narrator was believable and a true expert.the story was very good until the ending ruined the well set up plot with nonsense.

Good but WAY too long

Yes, a good (not great) story, but it should have been 200 pages shorter.

Excellent narration.
