About this listen

Twenty years ago, six Penn students shared a house, naively certain that their friendships would endure - until the death of their ringleader and dear friend Bea splintered the group for good. Now, mostly estranged from one another, the remaining five reluctantly gather at that same house on the eve of what would have been Bea's fortieth birthday.

But along with the return of the friends come old grudges, unrequited feelings, and buried secrets. Catherine, the CEO of a domestic empire, and Owen, a stay-at-home dad, were picture-perfect college sweethearts - but now teeter on the brink of disaster. Lindy, a well-known musician, is pushing middle age in an industry that's all about youth and slowly self-destructing as she grapples with her own identity. Behind his smile, handsome plastic surgeon Colin harbors the heartbreaking truth about his own history with Bea. And Annie carefully curates her life on Instagram and Facebook, keeping up appearances so she doesn't have to face the truth about her own empty reality.

Reunited in the place where so many dreams began, and bolstered by the hope of healing, each of them is forced to confront the past.

I have read too many of this kind of books, reunion of old friends, and revelation of secrets. This book didn’t bring anything unique to that pool rather it leans more to the boring side. There was nothing mysterious or suspenseful, not sure why this book is on Mystery and thriller genre. I got it free on Kindle Unlimited, I would’ve not liked to pay for this one.

I liked the storyline; I’m a sucker for nostalgia and reunions with this had and was the basis for the book. However the overuse of cuss words was utterly crass. Unnecessary and off putting.

Nostalgia smothered in the F word

This was an interesting storyline and could have been a pleasant change from the books I usually listen to, if the characters hadn't been so immature, and belligerent. There were several times during the book that the way they talked, yelled, and cussed at each other made me very irritable while listening. I'm really in the fence about recommending

I liked the story much more than the characters

I am not sure a younger audience will appreciate this story, but 35 and above will get it and love it.

I can’t praise this book enough. Character development was amazing and intriguing and felt real. I loved how nothing was revealed until it was the right time. I will definitely check out more books by this author.

Old friends are really worth the effort. That is the essential message of this novel. Allison Winn Scotch and Julia Whelan are a formidable new team. As always, Ms. Whelan makes a good book a great listen. Ready for a screenplay, the story will entertain you throughout and have you reflecting on your own long-term friendships that may need some rekindling.
