Publisher's summary

Two centuries ago, the First Expansionary Fleet set off to the farthest reaches of the galaxy, hoping to explore, colonize, and conquer new worlds in the name of humanity. But when the fleet was violently and unexpectedly thrown off course, the colonists found themselves trapped in an unexplored region of the galaxy—and caught right in the middle of a bloody interstellar war.

Now, after generations of relentless fighting, a tentative truce has finally ushered in an era of growth and prosperity. Yet as hardline forces on all sides conspire to break the ceasefire, humanity finds itself in need of a new type of soldier—one who can win the peace even while the galaxy arms for war.

Major Kal Zeris is the next generation of Dominion trooper, a powerful psionic soldier capable of withstanding—and dishing out—superhuman amounts of punishment. Born naturally on a crime-infested border world, Kal has learned to do whatever it takes to survive. But when he finds himself paired up with a sheltered young fleet cadet, he quickly learns that despite what her flawless, genetically engineered body may have given her in looks and smarts, there is no replacement for good, old-fashioned experience—on the battlefield. And luckily for her, Kal is eager and willing to help.

Together, they must unravel a conspiracy that threatens to end the peace—and destroy the Lost Fleet before it can find its way home.

Incursion is the first installment in The Lost Fleet trilogy, an action-packed power fantasy in the spirit of Battlestar Galactica, Mass Effect, and Star Trek (the good version).

Hell Yes! Easy Recommend

A little context for my review. I tend to take it easy on the first and last book of any series as not every series makes it to “The End” and the first of anything can be a shaky endeavor, to say the least. I also try to make clear the distinction between the quality of the writing/performance of the author/narrator and my personal tastes should they differ. starting off with the author, I have read some of her past work and have enjoyed it immensely. This is this author's first audiobook And I think it came out wonderfully. The narration team is one in which I am unfamiliar with, but their performances were fantastic. As for the book itself it appears to be the first of a new series set in a universe that the author has written in previously. The two series’ that precede this one, are currently completed and available in eBook form. The first one is the “Shadows of The Seraph” which is a completed trilogy and the second “Wings of the Seraph” which is a completed series totaling five books. Both of the precursor stories are available as one completed eBook each. Definitely something that I will check out now that I'm done with this one. “The Lost Fleet” series has a sequel set for release September 19th, but I don't know when the audio for it will release. The e-book has a map of space where the story takes place. The dominion finds itself trapped within this veil where there are alien inhabitants that they come into conflict with. Our hero is a marine looked down upon by the regular fleet personnel who will find his way into the arms of a bunch of beautiful women. There is a war a brewing. I recommend you checking out the authors website as you can find a larger version of the map as well as images of the different species in this story along with an explanation about them. All around I've enjoyed the story immensely and I am looking forward to what comes next. Well done to everybody who had a hand in bringing this story to us the audible listeners and keep up the good work.

Pleasant Surprise

I'm a reader of scifi military, space fleet, and similar. This appeared as a recommendation by Audible. I shrugged and figured why not give it a listen. (Worst case is I'd archive and forget about it)

Lo and behold there is a solid space opera story going on. There is good development of the factions. A stable basis for the tech. Characters who maintain their personality. And a page turning storyline.

That all gives greater impact to the relationships side of things - where turn pages more slowly .

The dual narrators work very well bringing all areas of the story to life.

I maybe picked this up on a whim. But I'm certainly intrigued to see what happens in the future titles of this series.

Thank you author, narrators, and publisher for a surprisingly excellent experience.

Good Start to a potentially great series...

The is book has sold me. Yes, I want more.
If you like Sci-fi, Action, Adventure mixed with unconventional relationships you will love this book.
I feel Sarah Hawk wrote this Sci-fi novel on the backdrop of a Warhammer 40k "like" universe. If you are looking for an action adventure laid out on the backdrop of an untrusting galaxy divided into pockets of political and war like factions, then YOU MUST LISTEN to this audio book.
Overall, I'm excited to hear more.
The Story was well paced with new ideas for the genre.
Performance was solid.

See you all after part 2.

BLUF: worth the credit

Narrators: Both the man and the woman were good. They both did excellent jobs in differentiating the voices of the different characters.

Story: Not bad. Not the greatest piece of fiction ever written, no but just interesting enough I finished it. Pacing was a bit off, with long periods of dialog or internal monolog followed by back to back sex scenes. The author clearly has in her mind the setting she built the story around but she jumps right in with little explanation as to who the players are, how they got there, what their relationships are, how technology works, etc. Some of that does come but in fits and spurts, with all too much still left unexplained. Combined with the Pacing issue and it was off putting.

Overall: It was worth the credit. Ill check out the next book, see if it is more of the same or if the author will spend some of the word count on explaining the setting a bit more, rather than back to back sex scenes.

Definitely a fan!

This was a gosh-darned good book! The story was excellent. There was plenty of action and plot discovery. I really liked the author's take on weapons, enhancements, abilities and armor.

There were some spicy times early in the book but there was a reason for it. A really screwed up reason by today's morals but still a reason. Besides that, I would consider this more of a slow burn type of harem. The characters are given time to develop alongside the overall plot and story progression. Both narrators do good job of fleshing out the character personalities and give the story as a whole a lot more depth. This is definitely a winner. Buy it with confidence that you are not wasting a credit.
