About this listen

Raising my daughter on my own is hard enough, but when you add in a psycho ex-husband and not enough money to make ends meet, there are times when I want to put my head down and never pick it up again.

Except my daughter deserves more than that.

I deserve more than that.

And then...I meet David Carmichael.

A man with a quick smile, infectious laughter, and a protective streak so wide, even the Grand Canyon sighs in admiration. We've spent our entire lives almost meeting, years and years of coincidences so strong they send goosebumps down my spine. It's like fate took a look at the cards I've been dealt and decided to hand me him as an apology.

David says we were inevitable, and now that we're together, we're unbreakable. I only hope he's right.

Contains mature themes.

Fast paced story just the way I like it but I really dislike the female character. She’s very weak and the other reviews made me think that her character development would be beautiful but it was nonexistent.

I hate that she never actually grows. To the very end she goes from being someone who doesn’t say no ever to simply depending on David to push the no’s out of her.

The situation at the end upset me most—In this moment y’all need to be able to pass strength between the two of you. He’s gone you should be thinking maybe he’s pulling strength from somewhere since he can’t depend on you the way you depend on him. But then to find out that he was out handling business and her friends grilling him is absurd. Like grow tf up! He should not be explaining his whereabouts to your friends and fighting to see you in the hospital because whether you remembered where he said he went or not you should have Faith &
Trust in the man you’re shacking up with AND having a child with especially when he have proven to be there for you month after month, time and time again. I’m a hardcore David fan but Michelle needs to go to therapy and learn to love her damn self.

The female needs to learn to love herself

Book was good and the story was predictable but surprising as well. I must read.

Great lesson about being true to yourself.

I enjoyed this audiobook story in which the heroine is a former ballerina, not reduced to teaching at her mothers dance school after a career ending injury. She's recently taken her daughter, left behind a violently abusive ex and divorced him. Struggling to make ends meet, she runs into a gorgeous guy at the animal shelter. He's a local farmer and he's instantly attracted to her. He finally asks her out, but he has secrets and trauma in his past to get over. Together they begin healing each other, but the nasty ex-husband shows back up causing serious problems. I thought the narration was well performed also.

it was a good book overall. A little slow and stale in some parts though

good

The girl has too much persecution complex. I understand putting people first and being selfless. The helplessness factor is over whelming

Wholesomeness of these two characters and the overcoming of fear is well presented

...reading it would be much better. The guys narration when females were talking was absolutely terrible can’t even explain it. Thank goodness it was is my romance package. Did like how it flowed through nicely. A few things were eye roll but a ok story. Please read... don’t listen.

Decent story but....

so, I read this book a year or so ago and loved it so I decided I needed to listen to it and that is where my struggle happened. The female narrator was fine, the male narrator was fine until he started speaking like a woman (even though I have never met a woman that sounds like that! I don't know why but it annoyed the crap out of me every time he did it, and it was a lot. I was determined to finish it but it was most definitely difficult to get through. I struggled with what to score it because the book is still a 5 star to me.

Great story not great narration

~~~ Spoiler Alert and apologies but...
After listening to AB’s Beyond Words audiobook I thought I’d give this one a try.. and try I definitely did!!. I tried to get on board with the ‘instant’ everything because I usually don’t mind that.. but sadly it somehow seemed way WAY too easy. I tried to think that the Stars had finally aligned to bring them together.. but I suspiciously failed to believe that, after a year of ‘small town living’ their paths never ever crossed before.. yet suddenly they constantly met. I tried to connect to the characters a bit more.. but spectacularly failed with that too. I tried to be ok with the speed and ease the single Mom Michelle moved in with David instead of cautiously moving forward slowly for her daughter’s sake.. but again I worryingly failed. I tried to understand why oh why Michelle would suddenly trust and believe what her psychotic dangerous ex told her when she hadn’t seen him since their rushed barely legal divorce (after being held at gunpoint by him) a year earlier. But nope nope nope, this Mom hadn’t met the liar’s ‘alleged’ girlfriend either, he hadn’t even got a booster seat for his car and he didn’t look at his daughter once. With the bitter emotional scars of their broken marriage still fresh in her mind, Michelle just lets her precious 5 yr old go off to spend the WEEKEND with him and his girlfriend. And, despite never agreeing to, or paying, any child support.. she just let her unhappy daughter go.. so yes, I mortifyingly failed to understand her reasonings as the red flags flew in her face.
David had lost his own 5 yr old daughter.. but suddenly there’s a 5 yr old living at the ranch.. and nobody questions his mind or motives that, within a month of meeting, hey presto he’s got a new family. The angst with the ex felt off and the drama towards the end was just too little too late.. and, for me, there wasn’t any pulse-pounding passion, moving romance, seismic chemistry or sizzling sex scenes.. instead everything seemed tame, watered down and diluted into a bland cocktail of nothing much. The almost alternate POV was good and the narrators did their best.. but sadly it didn’t help.
Worth a credit? David, Michelle and Clare’s story was a “meh” listen for me.. a below average 3 star beach read and I’m sorry to say that, IMO nu uh, it isn’t worth a credit.. and thankfully I didn’t use one because it’s an Audible Escape book. But we’re all different.. you may absolutely love it.. and that all good too.
FOR ME, IT FELT LIKE A WATERED DOWN BEACH READ
