Bonnie Rae Shelby is a superstar. She's rich. She's beautiful. She's impossibly famous. And Bonnie Rae Shelby wants to die.
Finn Clyde is a nobody. He's broken. He's brilliant. He's impossibly cynical. And all he wants is a chance at life.
One girl. One boy. An act of compassion. A bizarre set of circumstances. And a choice - turn your head and walk away, or reach out your hand and risk it all?
With that choice the clock starts ticking on a man with a past and a girl who can't face the future. With the world against them, two very different people take a journey that will not only change their lives but may cost them their lives as well.

The narrator is wonderful and easy to listen to. All in all I have read 4 books by this author...each fresh and beguiling.
The weaver..

The narration was good and easy to listen to. The singing drew me out of the story though because it did not fit the description of the character's voice.
The characters are a bit rough and world-hardened so it logical for them to be crass, however I was not expecting it. I think it shows an elevation in writing when an author can portray a character who would realistically swear or be crude without actually lowering to that level. For the most part the author stays on higher ground, however there were a few lines/words that made me uncomfortable. They came late enough in the book that I did not stop listening I just ignored it until the scene changed. I get the reason for showing that Finn did stupid stuff in the past, but . . . is that word really necessary?
As for the physical side of the romance, this book pushes my comfort level. I have listened to two other Amy Harmon books. One was in my range of clean (The Bird and the Sword) and one crossed the line (The Queen and the Cure). For those who enjoy clean romances, this line can be tricky because it takes a lot of skill to navigate the emotion and the suspense and the excitement of discovery and keep it in that place where the reader feels the satisfaction of a good story and not wary of trusting the author.
Out of the three books I have listened to by this author, I admire her ability to create depth and growth in her characters. Each book has had a theme of the characters' love being a catalyst for healing or overcoming some inner challenge. Those inner challenges are raw and relevant and not blah or cliche. She is adept at creativity, story-telling, and writing in a way that makes the story vivid.
I doubt I will try another one of her books though since I am not sure if I will be surprised by words or scenes that lower the quality of the experience.
Entertaining story, but not as clean as I prefer.

Tavia Gilbert is a top notch narrator, if not singer. I’m sorry to say but I was a little put off by her singing. Certainly she’s better than I could ever hope to be, but Bonnie was supposed to be a megastar singer so Tavia’s renditions took away from the story a bit for me. Sorry if that’s mean........But Tavia, you are awesome & a real talent, one of my favorite female narrators.
Compelling & Heartwarming!!
