About this listen

Just when she thought she'd seen everything... Detective Lieutenant Anita McElone is one of Harbor Haven's finest. She's also a hard-boiled ghost skeptic. So when she shows up on the doorstep of Alison Kerby's Haunted Guesthouse to ask for supernatural help in solving the murder of her former partner, it's hard to tell which woman is more flabbergasted. But McElone is dead serious, so Alison promises to help in any way she can - even asking her resident ghosts, Paul and Maxie, for help with the case. As Paul's spirit source reveals some troubling information about the deceased detective, Alison wrestles with what to tell McElone. First, though, she has to find her... because the lieutenant has suddenly disappeared.

Clever and Amusing

I thought the story cleverly done. Light hearted mystery. Reader seemed to fit the character well.

Wow

What a continuation! Wonderfully done and getting really personal with the detective and her secrets. Losing her friend and getting kidnapped. I love seeing the relationship change dynamics a bit between them.

this was 1 of the best yet!

if you are following any of these fun mysteries at the guesthouse "down the shore" of New Jersey.. then u will enjoy this chapter. our family of special folks that are on another plane are still trying to help their Private Eye business thrive. Alison's only concern is how to be the best host possible. including the special tour group that comes back for the covert haunt experience at a real haunted house. Isn't it great? Enjoy!

Enjoyed but least favorite so far!

Just finished book 6 in this series. Still enjoyable but very predictable. Maybe I need a break from the series before I listen to the next book????? This book has murdered cops, more detective work, and more ghosts. Alison teams up with Detective Lieutenant Anita McElone to solve the murder of her last partner and friend. Amanda Ronconi is absolutely fantastic. Amanda is the perfect voice for Allisen. She has the exasperated and snarky tone down perfectly.

Inspector Specter

I gave this a four star rating only because everyone can't always have a five star book. What I mean is, that I have read and listened to all of her books up until now and even though there is always a lot of extraneous information, it's a light easy read when you need a break from your regular readings. However, if I ever hear the name OLIVER, I will scream! Allison is asked by her best friends to watch their baby because they needed to go on vacation. OLIVER is left with her and we hear EVERY detail of his movements throughout the book. Thus taking away from the storyline at hand. The narrator is always great as far as I'm concerned. She has given the characters their own personality by her speaking like each of them. Good going Amanda! Let's get back on track with the detective work and your friends Paul and Maxie!

Not too supernatural, a perfect balance!

What made the experience of listening to Inspector Specter the most enjoyable?

I loved the cast of characters that came together, especially Paul & Maxie. They were easily the most enjoyable characters, but honestly they all were great, even gruff Anita! I loved to see the friendship between the skeptical no nonsense cop Anita & Alison blossom. They are polar opposites, but work well with one another. Each and every character is well developed & has unique personality traits that make them more than just 1 dimensional. It really made the book.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot wasn't really suspenseful, but it did hold my attention & it was a very enjoyable listen.

Which character – as performed by Amanda Ronconi – was your favorite?

I loved Maxie! She is such a sass, and her narration was just perfect! I also enjoyed Paul, and how they played off of one another. Overall, all the characters were narrated really well.

Definitely will read others

I know this is mid-series, so I’m sure there were some subtle nuances and insider humor that I missed. Still, I found the characters to be just quirky enough to be fun without being absurd. Ans Alison was a risk taker without being foolish, which I appreciated. I’m going to start back at book one and read forward.
